Learn to Paint Kit 3:

Look at all these paints! There’s even a bottle of the brush-on sealer that everyone keeps taking about. I’m excited! Fresh brushes too!

The minis are Anduriel Brightflame, Elven Warrior and Tyden, Female Barbarian. A bit of flashing and some non-Euclidean geometry happening to their weapons, but that’s nothing unusual. I’m impressed by the details on these minis, Anduriel in particular has a lot going on.

Now to take a look at the instructions, see what this Non-Metallic Metal is all about.

Oh.

Okay. I see why it was recommended to wait on this one. Did I say excited? I meant terrified.

Ah well, no sense delaying the inevitable, time to prep and practice. I hope it’s interesting at least.

Ia am very close to getting my hands on these old kits.

They were definitely worth it. Haven’t seen either of the new ones yet, but I’d imagine they are similar in instruction.

Both minis have been trimmed, what mold lines I dared get to taken care of, and mounted in bottle caps. This time I wanted to try Reaper’s brush-on primer. Gave both a coat, but it’s much more fluid than the spray primer I normally use and doesn’t turn everything primer white. How do you know if it has been properly applied?

My FLGS' supplier has a website that's really screwy, so when they say LTPK #1 they don't really say whether or not it's the old one or new one. Trying to help the store sort them out, already got both #1 and #2 for the new LTPK's, hoping they can bring in the old school ones.

The kit was nice for learning NMM.  My result can be seen in the website for anduriel alongside Cash Wiley's.  With the new NMM paints from KS3 maybe they could be planning one in the future, since they got the basics done.  But I imagine it takes time to make them.

Looking forward to seeing your results.

Those are some fine examples to attempt to live up to. Don’t expect flocking anytime soon ::P:

Looking more closely, it appears the dagger in his left hand should be pointed somewhat away from the body. As my Anduriel is evidently about to stab himself in the shoulder, some gentle reshaping has rocketed to the top of my to-do list.

Tyden also has a rather large mold line chunk on the underside of her shield arm. I’m nowhere near brave enough to attempt a fix, so I guess I’ll have to live with it.

I wish Reaper would make a NMM in the new LTPKs - I'd love to properly learn that technique...I'm about to try and self teach myself, but it seems daunting.

Kuro Cleanbrush's videos helped me. I still need to try it on armor, but I am pretty happy with the method on weapons now.

Basecoats are done, finally:

Apologies for the poor quality pics.

This has taken a lot longer than I’d anticipated, but it seemed best to get to this stage while working on both models, as the directions called for identical basecoats in many cases. Also, there are far more fiddly little bits than it appears at first glance. As expected, my poor brush is already a wreck . Anduriel’s dagger has been repositioned and will stay where it is now, as it was becoming far too easy to bend for my liking.

Now that the easy part is over with, it’s time to begin learning things. I think it might be best to watch some videos on highlights first (always been a weakness).

This is likely where things go sideways, but I will take my time and hope for the best.
