junex
I recently saw a brush care video which mentioned a couple of things I don't agree with: 1. if water gets in the ferrule it can degrade the glue holding the hairs 2. brushes should not be stored bristles up I have an old Series 7 #1 and one those floral water tubes. I've thought of doing this before so here goes. Day 1
BLZeebub
i haven't ever heard those tips. I've heard ONLY ever store your brush tip-up, that paint in the ferrule will splay your hairs, and that super hot water can loosen the glue. That video was bonkers mate! Gadgetman!
Water alone won't degrade the glue in the ferrule... unless you leave it soaking in water for a very long time, and then it doesn't matter which way you store it. Personally, I store all my brushes flat.
Glitterwolf
I store my brushes in a bamboo roll. Tips are protected with the plastic tubes they come with.
Loim
My brushes spend most of their time scattered around my desktop. 4

Exactly the same here. And if the plastic tubes go missing I purchased a length of aquarium or 3d printer clear tubing with an inside diameter of 3-4 mms and I can make instant brush protectors anytime. Plus this tubing is not so brittle and actually grips the metal ferrule much better than the plastic protectors that come with the brushes. Come see me at ReaperCon and I can show you them. Edited to say I can actually show you the listing on eBay that I purchased and use. The new protectors work so well I think I am going to replace all the ones that came with the brushes. I must do this! All my plastic protectors keep sliding off and going missing.

I normally have my optivisor on when I do it as well. I've never bent any bristles back then being careful this way.
Gadgetman!
Look for 3mm or 4mm PTFE tubing. That's the type of plastic used in the 3D printer tubing.
Harrek
39 minutes ago, Paradoxical Mouse said: I must do this! All my plastic protectors keep sliding off and going missing. Well the short answer is search ebay for: PTFE Teflon Tubing I found clear ones and got a length with a 3mm inside diameter and a 4mm inside diameter (outside diameter being 1mm larger, and I get it in 1 or 2 meter lengths, make sure you are getting clear). I just put the tube on the end of the brush until it grabs the ferrule snugly. Then I cut it off a bit past the end of the brush tip to proper length. Send me a PM if you need a link to the type I actually ordered and I can send it there as they frown on links to products in the forums.

To be fair, these are 99 cent brushes that I’ve ruined by using them so it’s not that big a deal. I cant be trusted with a real brush yet.
Cyradis
I store fully dry brushes point up usually, but have a travel case for others. I sometimes use plastic protectors, but otherwise they're next to each other with little chance of movement. While wet and in-use, they are horizontal or slightly tilted downward (table has a slant to it, so I can use it to my advantage). I really should be a bit more careful I suppose. Snag the Virtuoso synthetics on Amazon. Super customer service, like 10 brushes for $15, and they aren't half bad. Plus a traveling case. They're no Winsor & Newton, but they feel like "good" brushes. Just, you won't have guilt if they get goofed up. And the case can be used for anything! I'm training Sir Cyr on these
