Normally, it's not till after mid-day, afternoon time Monday that traffic gets crazy (probably because everyone decides to wait till last minute to come home) Yeah, but I’d hate to miss the (unofficial and no way related to anything ReaperCon-ish) Forumite Sunday dinner out... which will obviously be someplace different ...if at all. So that pushes me, if I’m driving, to leaving DFW area late Sunday around 9 or 10pm, getting a hotel in Witchita perhaps, or the 12 hour drive (without delays) on Monday. Flying frees me up some, but then limits what I can bring. But... maybe that’s workable too, considering how little I actually needed to use to paint last year. And I could always scam, er, borrow, some paint from other forumites. Then the Awesome Wife might not come if I fly, and additionally as we might not be able to get grandparents to come see/babysit the teens because of the holiday Monday. But I continue to stew on the decision.
Moderator TaleSpinner Posted January 9, 2018 Moderator Share Posted January 9, 2018 Personally, I'm not too worried about holiday traffic. Up here it is only really bad coming into the Twin Cities from the north. Nobody goes to Iowa for a long weekend.

Will depend on what flights are like, but I'm not aware of Labor Day being a particularly heavy air travel day. Road Trips; yes. I just looked at flights & looking at per day rates on American, then is roughly a 90 to 100 dollar difference between Sunday & Monday. If I can get this one off, I may have to alter my days this year.

Gus wants to play in your game after hearing about it from Myles.
Members SamuraiJack
I'll definitely take an Execucar from the airport to the hotel again. Last year it was the same cost as a private Super Shuttle.. I'm hoping that Enterprise will have their $9.99/day weekend special again next year if we don't rent at the airport...

This year though, I'm going to have to leave as soon as the con ends on Sunday because we will need to make it home at a decent time on Monday so my son can go to school the next day. That means I need to make it to Kansas City on Sunday night. I drove from Austin to Hutchinson Kansas (passing through Kansas City) after work (6:00 pm) one day. I stopped at a Denney's in Denton to eat, then continued. I arrived in Hutchinson around 2:00 am. You should make Kansas City from Denton just fine. I am putting Tuesday through Tuesday on my vacation calendar, but I am not holding my breath. We'll see.
Inarah
Denton to KC is a ~9 hour drive. We've been doing it the last 10+ years, stopping for lunch/dinner. If we leave the con around noon, grab lunch and hit the road by 1pm, stop for dinner somewhere in OK, we get home around 10:30-11pm. Last year we stayed for the auction, got home around 1am, asleep by 2, and DH had to get up at 6 for work.

Maybe not such a rush to get back home?

One less day for me to run a game, etc etc. I think this year I'll request Tues to Tues vs Mon to Tues. I'll leave for Boise in the afternoon but at least I'll cover my non-load days. Just the rest o the week will be the problem. Here's to hoping. Hey if Gus is much of a character as Myles, it'll be riot. I still haven't decided what WBG game I'll run but I'm kinda leaning towards WBG3 due to the wagon I got last week (encounter with the Varisians & their camp). So who knows. Kinda holding out for Free RPG day & Paizo's release.

I cancelled my supershutle ride the night before I left on Monday. I was gonna get a ride with a fellow forum member but in the end I went with Lyft. I was happy with the service & what 23 bucks wasn't too bad at all. With the extended distance now from the hotel to the airport I'll probably go SS, as it's cheaper then Lyft.

haldir
Room booked as well. Now crossing fingers for time off granted. Also, awesome rate for the hotel room. I was dreading even paying 130 or so.
