I'm hoping to be able to go this year.  One of my co-workers will be traveling around that time, so we'll see if I can get the time off.

I'm also hoping to convince my wife to come along too but she doesn't paint miniatures.  What would she be able to do with her time?

If I make it down my wife is also coming and she is not a painter.  Though she said she'd like to take a beginners class.  She'll be happy relaxing with warm weather and such I am sure also.  And visiting with people.  And she can see first hand if people like her cookies this year I suppose!

Does she game? there are a lot of role playing games that go on. The past several years there was also a borrow a board game table set up. Grab a game, get some people, and play.

We'll have to wait and see if that's a thing this year as well.

Does your wife have any portable hobbies like needlepoint, crocheting, or jewellery making? My wife came with me last year and she brought along some of her jewellery making supplies; between that, gaming, and just talking to people she was pretty busy and enjoyed herself.

Me and my wife are finally going this year's after so long of wanting to! What are some things you definitely check out? Do people gather in rooms after hours and hang out? I'm super excited to get to meet other forumites after so many kickstarters and chat on these forums. It's been a while since I've been on here so super happy to be back!

The old hotel had a outside area with a gas fireplace that everyone would congregate at in the evenings.  People would also hangout in the lobby/bar area and play games and paint.  One night, the outside group was rowdy enough that we all got kicked inside; there were noise complaints from people in the rooms around the fire pit area so the staff just had us come into the lobby area.

I'm not sure what the new venue will have for common areas, but I'm sure that there will be a congregation.

The con isn't very large. There's classes, the paint contest, vendors, and gaming.  It will all be in close proximity.

If they follow the pattern of previous years there will be a large area to hangout and paint during the day, probably in a ballroom.  This is where folks will be when not shopping or in classes.  Feel free to walk up to people and introduce yourself.

Since there are no scheduled dinners this year folks will scatter in search of food in the evenings.  Many people will go in groups, depending on who has a vehicle and how many fit inside at once.  The hotel has a "happy hour" with snacks, but I'm not expecting that to satisfy a couple hundred people.  So ask if anyone wants to try the taco place up the street or go for bbq and you'll have a bunch of new friends.

As Dilvish says, people have been congregating in the bar area in the evenings, and will probably continue to do so.  You don't have to drink to be there and have fun.  There may be unofficial games going on, and painting if the hotel staff doesn't freak out over it.

Then there are those of us who follow this strange nocturnal ritual called "sleeping". ^_^
