Well some of us can make any time of the year work. :P  Even if I had other things going on that week I would get out there to visit and shop.

So easy solution....you all move to TX.

If you have a good school system, and a good relationship with the schools, treasure it.

Yeah Allen elementary schools are rated one of the best here.  Plus she got into the new GATE academy they started by doing great on the testing and then winning the lottery draw they did since it was limited to 2 kids from her grade level at the school she was attending.  After all that and her enjoying the program so much we would hate to take her away from it all.

The change to fall worked better for me.  Too much stuff going on in April. I am married to Awesome Wife, but I think even she wouldn't want me to miss our anniversary weekend every year.

Ours is in the fall but September. Hell I think my wife loves it when I go as it gives her a break from me!!

Next year, the MMSI Chicago Show is the 19-21 of October. I'm hoping RCon and MMSI won't overlap (like they did in 2016). Much better to be able to attend both this year.

What is MMSI?

Husband and has already said no. Funny got a recruiter email about a job in Denton the day we arrived in Lewisville. Husband said “Broccoli No.”

As we were driving out of Dallas he was like “Do you want to deal with traffic like this everyday.” And my response was, “I’d target living and working in Denton, problem solved.”

What's that? We don't have a winter, just autumn and hell.

Winter :: the verb: "He winters the ship in Barabados every year."

I kinda like the October date. Helps spice up the Halloween season, now that all I have to do is repair and prep the perimeter defenses and hand out candy to them what gets past 'em.

Although I noticed that this past Reapercon, the air seemed remarkably hot and soupy; I hadn't been back to Texas in two years, and wasn't used to the weather, humidity, and temp. I was ashamed when I looked at the actual temperature; I used to laugh at the mid eighties. Now they seem remarkably hot.

Military Miniature Society of Illinois - their big show is in October, this year was the 13th - 15th.  Reaper Con's Open judging system - cert, bronze, silver, gold - has much in common with the MMSI, based on similar International standards.  Besides the traditional historical and ordnance categories, some years ago they added a fantasy category.

Thanks Dave! Yeah, it would be nice to go to both.

Ha Ha!

After 80-90 degree weather since March this year in Louisville, it felt nice. “Like the weather back home” even though back home was becoming 50 degrees.

... One year it did get hot but only on Sunday (wanna say 2006 or 07) + it was a nice way to end winter & welcome spring. Now with it in October you don't have to worry so much about the weather. We'll besides the occasional thunderstorm. (been awhile since I got see one like we got Saturday @ the Con this year) or a kinda warm day...

I seem to recall RCon 2005 being in the upper 90s/low 100s for the weekend.

At least in Spring I was in TX out of phase with allergies (not the case in October).

The MMSI show started the open system judging for figure shows in the USA. Developed by the Legendary Shep Paine, and later picked up by World Expo and many other Historical Shows. Anne learned about the open system after attending an MMSI show years ago and made the change to Reaper Con. The open system (rewarding all work for its level of quality, instead of "First, Second, Third, LOSERS" is very different from the environment of IPMS shows (aka Rivet Counters), where the goal in judging is to look for flaws to disqualify each piece.

This year was the 43rd annual Chicago show. The 44th show is October 19-21, 2018.

Well Hello there! Long time no see.

This may be one reason I don't mind living here.  Had a job for about 7 years where I lived ~10 min away.  Then I got this new job almost 7 years ago and we moved out here near it and I am about 5-10 depending on if lights catch me.  So yeah...traffic is only a problem when I need to run somewhere at rush hour times.

I am in Allen but at this point anywhere in the DFW area feels about the same.  At times we feel like we are just far enough out of the big city to enjoy life a little more.  Then I want to go somewhere in the big city and it takes 45 min to get there. :/

I don't live within 1000 miles of DFW, but, not all that long ago, I moved closer to the big city for the purpose of enjoying life a little more.

To each their own.

Although, having attended 6 ReaperCons, I still haven't actually set foot any closer to Dallas than DFW airport. :upside:
