Late Question for Wednesday, Nov. 29th: Subj:  Xmas. Have you heard some grinchly soul assert that "Xmas" is a less religious or even absolutely secular way to spell Christmas? If yes, How long ago was this??

I didn't even know this was a topic of discussion.  But then, I don't know much about the etymology of "Xmas" and just assumed it was created by a marketing department looking for a way to spell Christmas using less space.

Not sure if I get the point of this one, but offer the following. Both are used. I would agree the Xmas is less proper, but not to the point of being grinchy about it. I use Christmas most often, but on occasion will use Xmas.

I use X-mas as written shorthand.  Because the X stands for Christ.  So it is just the same as if I wrote out Christmas.  People getting all wound up about are just looking for something to get wound up about.  IMNSHO.

XP also called Chi-Rho has been a standard christogram (abbreviation for and symbol of Christ) for seventeen hundred years. X is also perfectly acceptable and canon.

I wish people would learn the history of their own religion.

How does one say "Merry Christmas" in Klingon?

Not sure. I will see if I can borrow High School Kid’s script of “A Klingon Christmas Carol” tomorrow.

Last Question for November, Thursday the 30th: Is your Xmas card list ready to go? Or have you abandoned the quaint notion of Christmas cards?

Thanks to an overly-zealous housemate, I posted all our Christmas cards this morning.

I haven't written a Christmas card since I was a little boy, but almost every year my mum still asks me if I'm sending out any cards. It's actually a tempting prospect now because we can do ridiculous Christmas family photos to go with them (see exhibit A from last year below).

We have our list, but have not yet prepared the cards. However, we are actually done with our Christmas shopping for the most part, which is really strange. :p

Of course it is.

No one gets a card!

I never got in the habit in the first place. It's not that much of a French-Canadian tradition as it is in English Canada.

I think in my time out of my parents house, going on 30 years now.  I have only sent Christmas Cards 2 of those years.  I keep saying I want to do it but...never seem to find the time to do it.
