Kings of War: Vanguard

It seems like the kickstarter is possibly picking up a little steam. Not a lot, but a little. It went up about $2k today and it's only about $1.5k away from unlocking the Basilean scouts. And today they've mentioned in the comments that there's a strong possibility of adding full Kings of War army bundles to the optional add-ons. If those are good deals, better than retail, then maybe they'll bring people in too.

They've also said that they're looking into doing two shipping waves, one for all the new stuff and one for all the already existing stuff that's available as add-ons. That way people who put in for the warbands that aren't Basileans or Nightstalkers can get their stuff and play around with the alpha rules.

Looks like they're going to start putting the stretch goals a little closer together after the Butchers at 90k. Instead of being in 5k increments they've dropped to 2.5k for the Banshee and the Ogre Palace Guard. Maybe it's because they're single figures, but I'm hoping that the trend continues to give people more incentive.

With the recent changes to the 90k and 100 stretches, I think you're right. Here's hoping that it works.

I am getting sick of the one guy in the comments over there that keeps complaining about weapon options because "It's still the same model! I can't tell any difference between them if only the weapon changes! Hurrr! Mantic is dumb for that!"

To be honest, I wasn't particularly impressed that their idea of an alternate Butcher sculpt was 'Same dude, different arms.', though they did much better with their alternate Sister Scout mini.

I won't be pledging though, it's not for me.

Basically, it's the same problem Games Workshops new Shadespire game has, I want small groups of highly individualized minis, not the same minis they use for their main games, just less of them.

One day someone will make my dream fantasy skirmish game, and it will be awesome!

Maybe something like Guild Ball?

If GW does a new Mordheim with minis that look as good as the new Necromunda ones, I'd be sold.

As for Vanguard, it's a little thing but a neoprene mat would go a long way to convincing me to back. Even better if there's different styles available.

I would like to see an all female version of the Basilean force.

Maybe just to have plastics of ladies in armor.

It's ironic that the plastic grunts have more individuality than the character models.

It is a little weird that the character models are generally monopose, but the grunts being multi-part hard plastic has a lot to do with that, I think. They're the ones that are also going to see a lot more translation to plain Kings of War, since they're also the grunt units in it. And having a horde of 40 units all in the same pose is practically a no-no for wargames from what I've seen. It seems much more forgivable to have a smaller unit of 3-10 models using the same pose with just minor variations in arm/leg position. And most of the character models in Vanguard fall into that category in KoW.

But I also think that going the PVC route didn't help in that regard.

That's probably because, you are less likely to ever run, more than one of each character type, in small games like this.

Even when you scale it up to full kings of war, there is not that big a focus on characters.

Just a few dollars past $90k at this point. I'm hoping that the bunch of extra minis that 90k adds in gets a "surprise" counterpart for the Basileans at the 92.5k mark. A bunch of extra minis would probably go a long way to getting people to hopefully hop off the fence.

Guild Ball would be great if they weren't moving the line to one piece plastic minis (they don't look as good IMO), and if they didn't like limited edition minis as much as they do.

I've got my eye on 4Grounds Legends of the Fabled Realms, just waiting to see what their finished minis look like.

Yeah. I was saving up for a few players which are virtually impossible to get hold of now and those weer supposed to be regular team members.

Seems like the free abyssals got a bunch of people to finally hop off the fence and join in. It's passed 100k, and the average pledge per backer is now up to the $85 required for either main set. I wish I could add more money, because i want the Abyssal resins and a couple more small warbands, but for now I'm capped out.

And the Men at Arms really needed new figures....

But, the real question... Does the world really need an ogre paladin in full plate?

The Auld Grump - rather like the ogre palace guard... but I also like the idea of an inept ogre paladin running around trying to do good deeds....
