Cthulhu Wars King in Yellow -- Completed

Allright so I was painting and then the idea occurred to me to try to paint gore on the wings. Needless to say I got carried away and I'm not *quite* sure how to make it look good again. Please help! Third pic specifically, I'm fairly happy with the other parts.

Not entirely sure what the look you were going for was, if you're going for more gore, I'd build up layers of darker and darker red (start slightly darker, and build up to crimson) so there is just a small bit of the darkest color. 

 

Alternatively, you can simply switch colors to the yellow and build up the yellow area if you're trying to minimize the 'gore'

Thanks for the suggestions, I gave it a shot and did both versions, but at the end it still looked too... 'clean' I guess.  The blood down the cloak seemed to neat, so I used an old brush and dabbed some red over the top area of the right wing. Will get a pic tomorrow, but I think it's looking much better now.

Are you trying to get a splatter effect? If so, take an old toothbrush you dont intend on using in your mouth, some slightly watered down red paint and dip the brush head in. Then (I recommend trying on paper first) point the brush head at a surface (like a remote control) and then using thumb, pull the bristles back and let them loose. Paint will splatter as small dots across surface. 

 

You can also use paper and/or tape to cover anything you dont want to get splatter on. 

 

Again, test this out on paper beforehand, as it's a messy method, but I use it often for paintings.

This is a very good method.

 

Look at pics of bloodied fighters to see how it should look.

Ha that's a great idea! I've done a similar thing but just with an old brush flicking the bristles. Toothbrush is a great idea, thanks!

Also works great for mud splatter on figures and stars in space on 2D pieces.

I decided not to go for the splatter effect on this one, I was more just looking for a way to blur the edges a bit. Anyway finished him up unless anyone has any urgent suggestions, I'll be varnishing him tomorrow. Any tips or suggestions for what I could have done better are much appreciated, Always trying to learn.

King in Yellow reminds me of True Detective (the 1st season when it was a good show).
