Eldamir has lost it .. err.. has accepted the d20 rainbow dragon quest again!

Recommended Posts

I'm a bit of a glutton for punishment, so have managed to talk myself into another rainbow dragon... Since I have ol' Pathfinder Red sitting in the Drawer of Doom and no real plans for him, I thought I'd randomize him (not that I don't have enough other projects that haven't been finished (or even started))..

So, here goes:

3 Star challenge on Pathfinder Red (#89001)

Primary : Blush Pink (although I might substitute in Breast Cancer Pink since I have 3 bottles of that from last month!)

Secondary: Brilliant Green (needs to  be ordered or fetched from the FLGS - I have Forest Green but that's too dark to match, i think)

Tertiary: Heather Blue (do not have this, but do have a Sample bottle from a past order that is very close and will be used in its place..

I smidged some paint on a sheet of paper for comparison and have decided that Blush Pink is much brighter than BCPink, so I'll probably use the Blush (unless I decide to go thematic again and donate this fellow to a survivor since I know a few).  Also, Forest Green is indeed way too dark to substitute in for Brilliant Green..

Here he is in all his boxed plasticky glory!

Looks like the original pictures got munged in the forum problems over the summer... but anywho, it took a year to get here, but I've finally unboxed him and will most likely get started this week.

Here he is all glued and stuff - I didn't see too many crevices that pre-assembly would interfere with painting on, so I went ahead and did that first - with the colors rolled..

One benefit of all the procrastination is that I now have both Brilliant Green and Heather Blue :)926206379_2018-11-0716_21_36.thumb.jpg.aa6f0f28f68c8c4aea2ebc08adc88e15.jpg

So I was looking at this fellow this afternoon (no, I haven't started anything yet other than his bath and the aforementioned gluing).. Since this contest came into being, I've discovered liners as base primer for Bones figures .. would a base coat of Red Liner (09307) violate the 3* ness of things?

Inquiring minds want to know!

Edit: Inquiring minds have now read the original contest thread again and realize that they can indeed use liner as primer as long as it's all covered up eventually :D

And he's already getting a simple green bath.. I lined in Red Liner, then tried a Brilliant Green wash, trying to get into his cracks and crevices between the scales ... then promptly dropped BCPink right on top of that, completely hiding the Brilliant Green..

After his bath, he'll get his liner base-coat back, then the green wash, then we'll try drybrushing the pink onto each scale to see if that works better..

I'm worried that the Red Liner is going to be too dark and that the Green will get lost in that darkness, but there aren't really any lighter liners available.. Even Grey Liner is pretty dark.

His bath is complete and this time around, I primed with Green Liner, then laid down a fairly solid layer of Brilliant Green on everything but the wing sails.

Now I've started hitting the scales with BCPink.. my back started bothering me about 20 scales in, so that's all she wrote for tonight, I think..

I did individual scales for the large ones, then got lazy and did several drybrush layers of BCPink for the majority of the torso .. not sold still, but am trying to remember that it's a work in progress and that things should come together at the end, right?  Also kind of rough because I wasn't real careful on the wing struts (since I'm going to be BCPinking the wing membranes and didn't think a bit of overpaint there would matter too much right now.. )

First 5 or so layers on the wing membranes..

I'm kind of feeling like green between scales clashes and makes it look like I just wasn't being thorough..

thoughts and opinions?

The plan was to have the Brilliant Green in the cracks and crevices, most of him BCPink and use the Heather Blue for horns, spine tips and claws..

I smell a watermelon dragon.

Which makes me go immediately to this..  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joDqu8Gu70k

Although, I think blush pink (which was the original roll) would have been a better pink for watermelon flesh..

Maybe I'll get ambitious and try to paint some seeds on the undersides of the wing membranes.. lol

So .. I'm no good at updates, apparently.. I finished painting him about a month ago and have been procrastinating basing until this week..

So, here's a few pics of him with his base started..

I decided to go for a sandy-beach look - the plumbers epoxy part will eventually be done in bluish with a cover of water effect after I finish the sand..

After 10 months, I finally dusted this off and finished it in an attempt to find some hobby mojo again.  Dragon is from Artisan Guild and was printed on the elegoo Mars almost a year ago.

Basecoated, drybrushed tan and then multiple washes layered before another quick drybrush and a final wash.  It was printed in clear green resin and the eyes and crystals on the rock were simply given a layer of Tamiya Clear Green after the mask was removed.  Crystals on the base are from Anarchy Models, again with a quick layer of Tamiya Clear green.  Reaper base with some Vallejo texture paste.

      Thanks for looking.

      SO....

Due to Brain Weasels and other Real Life Issues, I haven't been doing much, really almost no, fantasy painting...
One of the things I have been doing is looking at old WIPs, and suddenly the desire to paint a DRAGON, came over me....

So here is the start of my new work on Cinder, #10014, in METAL...

Hopefully, I can keep up the sudden burst of enthusiasm....

So planning on mold line hunting, and trying to decide what color to paint this dragon...
As I am old school, the webbing between the back spines is leading me to green, but need to check the books to see which way to go....

About time you returned from the place I couldn't reach you minion......

      OMG, please not again....

any and all comments gratefully ignored....

This is my Duo entry with @Humansquish for this months Reaper Challenge League. I couldn't think of a colour scheme at all, then I remembered that a friend has a T-shirt with the statement " Rhinos are just Chubby Unicorns".

I humbly present my interpretation of such a beast As always, comments and criticisms are more than welcome.

Well 2020 is over and even though the year wasn't so great I did get my dragon goal of 12 dragons completed (actually completed 15 !) So with the new year I'm looking to try it again.

The last year I did a bunch of dragons from all eras a d makes.  This year I think I will make the challenge a little more specific.  This year I'll try for 12 dragons from defunct companies: grenadier, Ral Partha, Thunderbolt Mountain, heritage, and others that are no longer producing today.  Whether i include minis from companies that died recently, im not sure (and I  know Ral Partha lives on as Iron Wind and Grenadier lives on as Merltion?  But I'm including them because its my challenge and the ones I have are the originals.

That said the first piece I did was the Bridge of Sorrows.  It came out really well so I let my better half look through my old boxed sets and she chose the next one:  Clutch of Fear!

This is another mini that I have had sitting in its box waiting for decades to be completed and its time has come (besides if I really mess up they have started recasting the molds again so its not an utter disaster. Also, since i have this one in the original box, I thought i would do a WIP to show how it goes.

Here is what it look like when I opened the box...

All the parts are there, including the instructions (more on those in the future) and an "inspected by 3" as well as assembly instructions.

Hope you all enjoy the ride.  I'll try to be diligent with updates.
