Show Off Forum Guidelines and Suggestions

This has been discussed and our decision stands as listed in the guidelines. Thank you for your input.

This is something the Mods/Admin need to look into/decide on.

I'm not really trying to elicit a discussion with other forum members about how to re-size things, but bring up the point that the original guideline was written in 2004 when the majority of people had dial-up, lower resolution cameras/pictures, and site server storage was at a premium. The current allowance according to the forum when adding pictures is 16mb per pic.

So, the posting "guideline"  wants you to use names and skus in the title. That kind of limits the number of minis per post. Is it better to post batches that you can't get all that info in the title, or spam the thread with multiple post pushing everyone off the front page. I prefer to not spam the thread. The monthly painting contest requires you post in showoff. Posting pics is a chore for me, so I'd rather to get one big headache at one time, rather than a couple headaches ever other day. You can still have skus and figure names in the body and the post that will be found in a search. Which way is preferable?

For your forum browsing pleasure, here's a reminder on how to see more than the last 30 days of posting:

To see older posts, click the 'Custom' button on the red toolbar at the top of the thread list and then click the drop down menu for 'Time frame' and select 'Show All'. Bonus points if you also tick the 'Remember filters' checkbox!

To resize a picture using Paint

Open Paint by clicking the Start button, clicking All Programs, clicking Accessories, and then clicking Paint.

Click the Paint button, click Open, click the picture you want to resize, and then click Open.

On the Home tab, in the Image group, click Resize.

In the Resize and Skew dialog box, select the Maintain aspect ratio check box so that the resized picture will have the same aspect ratio as the original picture.

If the Maintain aspect ratio check box is selected, you only need to enter the horizontal value (width) or vertical value (height). The other box in the Resize area is updated automatically.

Do one of the following in the Resize area, and then click OK:

To resize your picture by a certain percentage, click Percentage, and then enter a percentage to reduce the width by in the Horizontal box or a percentage to reduce the height by in the Vertical box.

To resize the picture so it's a specific size, click Pixels, and then enter a new width in the Horizontal box or new height in the Vertical box.

Click the Paint button, point to Save as, and then click the picture file type for the resized image.

Type a new file name in the File name box, and then click Save.

Hey, I am new to the forums but I am curious what the guidelines regarding videos are? Several of my minis that I have painted I have timelapse of me painting (I have also recently started streaming me painting minis). I would only be posting links to the minis I have painted along with what pictures I have taken.

The mods have asked us not to embed videos in the threads.

Sorry for the threadomancy but I have a question regarding the uploading of pictures that, for some reason, isn't clear to me.

Do I need to create an account on something like Photobucket or another image hosting site, upload the image there, and then link it here using the 'Image' button (of course properly linking the image with a warning in case of nudity)? I've looked for a way to post the image to the forum directly but I'm at a loss as to whether this is an offered option.

Creating an account on an image hosting site is no problem but I don't know which to choose. I've been out of the loop when it comes to new websites regarding images, social media, voodoo, and hoodoo.

As long as you follow the image size guidelines and the no nudity clause, you can upload photos directly using the tools on site. Now, since the forum changeover, I haven't actually tried this but I am going to hope it works in a similar fashion as it did before where you click Browse to choose your photo, upload and then show your photo in the post. You do not need an outside photo host unless your mini depicts nudity.

Direct works a little different now.  When you select pictures from your computer they'll appear as thumbnails in a box below the post text box.  You have to click on the + sign near the top left of the thumbnail to add it to the post.  Overall, I think it's much easier.  It also shows the picture in the post body instead of making you go to Preview Post first.

hi new to the forum, have a question regarding posting "show offs" for a figure about which there is already a thread started by someone else.  In this case, the Reaper Bones 77577 Manticore.

Is it OK to just add pics to someone elses thread and keep it going, or should i start a new one? (I did use the OP's example as a loose inspiration).

My concern is someone will say i like this or that one better and cause conflict/resentment, really don't want that

thanks,

In general, you should be starting your own thread to showcase your own work on the model and not adding to someone else's thread.
