From The Bottom Up, Part II

Recommended Posts

To my mind, such as it is, The Base is a key element in the making of a successful miniature creation. The base provides a place & time for the miniature at the least. A really good base provides a story telling setting for the miniature...the story telling is what I try for. Without the base, the miniature is a lifeless thing. Without the miniature, the base is an alien landscape.

LOVE making bases...I'll bet you figured that out all by yourself. Sometimes the creation of a base will precede the miniature by years. When I finished The Three Trees & The Zombie R.O.U.S., I spotted a base that I had started & left in its early development quite some time ago. I was watching a Haunted Forest Base how-to on YouTube & now I needed to work on that forlorn base. So this is where it stood on Sunday:

Monday the build was just about done by evening. The sand was glued down, the face done up in Kneadatite (green stuff), rocks in plumber's epoxy putty, the branches & roots got a teased out hot glue coating, & the bark in DAD (air dry clay):

Today I did my white over black base coat...base base coat...on everything except the DAS:

Tomorrow the DAS will get a spray of workable fixative & then the white & black treatment. I might figure out what mini(s) will go the thingy in the interim...or not.

 Until then...

Thanks for the positive reply, Loim. It is appreciated. I am glad you like it thus far.

While I still haven't picked out any possible inhabitants, I have tarted tinkering with a few more bases...sigh.

Thank you for the kind reply as well, LarsM!

Doing bases isn't for everyone, but it adds to the pleasure of creating & the finished piece immeasurably. I am delighted that in this you are a kindred spirit.

AND the DAS has dried, been sprayed, & base coated:

Now I can start painting while I scour The Vault for THE PERFECT miniature or miniatures.

Until whenever...
