My brother-in-law makes his own fruitcake, which is far superior to that dried lump you get at stores. I really shouldn't eat much, but I'm not sure if it's because of the amount of carbs in it or the fact that it's been soaked in rum for at least 3 months.

My favourite fruitcake is about 80% dried fruit boiled in juice then soaked in booze. Then the flour etc is added, baked, then brushed with more booze while hot.

What is your favorite winter seasonal/holiday tasty treat? Why? Got a recipe? We're hungry.

Cinnamon vanilla mead from Redstone Meadery.

Mulled apple cider with amaretto or tuaca.

Minestrone soup. That used to be the family tradition for the holidays, long ago. Not so much anymore, and that makes me sad. We'd do a home made minestrone. Nothing fancy, just tasty.

And New Year's Eve chocolate fondue. Mmmm fondue. My friend and I used to use the chocolate a bit as facepaint then use sponge cake to scrape it off ourselves and eat it. We were gross kids.

Are you working on any minis (or related crafts) as seasonal holiday projects or gifts?

Just the winter exchange.

What is the most useful piece of advice you have received due to frequenting these forums?

Hard to say.  While there is certainly some good oft-repeated advice, I'm not sure that I heard it here first.

If the ingredients are available year round, I'll make it year round.

Mince pies and mulled wine.

The funny thing is that, while I've had mince pies several times, I've only had them together once.  However, the memory of that one time has a very strong association with Christmas for me.

Basically, my wife and I had traveled to Scotland for Christmas with the express intention of spending Christmas in a castle.  As you can imagine with Scotland and Christmas, the weather was extremely cold and we spent a lot of time indoors.  In particular, we spent a lot of time in front of a log fire chatting while noming on mince pies and mulled wine.  I have very fond memories of that Christmas!

Use your thumb nail to carve a little hole in the orange peel the size of the peppermint stick (or candy cane). Stick your peppermint candy straw into the orange and begin sucking.

Okay.  I have to try this sometime.

And this sounds wonderful.  I know a chain of stores around here sells Redstone Meadery bottles.  I wonder if they have any.

Warning: it can take a looooong time. You're using vacuum pressure to pull orange juice into the microscopic channels in the candy cane, the juice over time dissolves candy cane into a straw. As you can imagine this is a highly time-inefficient way to eat an orange. An hour average, in my experience. Sometimes two. Hence why I'm not so sure my mother didn't just invent it to get a bunch of kids to shut up ::P:

For December 1st:

What have you done that you are proud of lately? It can be a big thing. It can be a small thing. We know you are at least glad to have done something

I'm slowly getting my energy back to talk to the amazing art folks here on the forums. I know it's been... wow, several months, since I've been on daily like I used to.

I'm also on the same consecutive daily art streak from last year: 583 days today. Many days recently have been circle days or anime eyes days, but I'm still putting pencil to paper....

Too many things! Everyone here has gotten the answers well covered.

Don't rely on motivation to do art, trust in your art family, always be willing to learn, and KEEP. PRACTICING.

Serinakaker, or butter cookies. I found the perfect recipe online HERE that tastes just like what I had once at my grandmother's house on my Dad's side.

I also have a strong love for amaretti cookies, recipe online HERE.

I also love eggnog.... And pretty much all food.... Yeah.

Alton Brown's aged eggnog.

Yes!  I make a similar version of his every year and gift a little jar of it to my nearby friends! It's about 1 750ml bottle of Kraken and 1 750ml bottle of Jack Daniels for every 2 dozen eggs. The dairy is identical but I measure in half gallons. I make a lot....

The 2-3 month mark seems to be the best tasting.

@Dr. Wyrm I did cream in my pumpkin pie this year, instead of milk, and it turned out even better!

One time I didn't have any milk for my mac and cheese and used cream because I was too lazy to go to the store for more milk.

It was amazing! Best lazy consequence. EVER.

Almost every time a recipe calls for milk now, I add cream.

If they don't, they may be able to order it. And if they can't, PM me. They're driving/biking distance away. Their cinnamon vanilla stuff is seasonal amd runs our fast. I missed a few years. Got a 2011, 2012, and 2016 bottle on shelf right now waiting for the right time to open them.

If you are in my neck of the woods, take their tour. They have nice tasters ^_^

There's been a lot.

I'm going to go with 'just keep painting.'

Cheese stuffed jalapeños.

Stores only sell them over the Christmas period, and I'm too lazy to make my own.

What is your favorite iconic weapon from a game, story, or movie? Lightsaber? Mr. Pointy? A spork?

There's far too many to narrow it down to one. I'm always a fan of the ludicrous, highly-impractical even in a fantasy setting ones.

Okay, I gave this some thought, and decided that I have two favorites, both from dnd games. The first is a 6 foot tall great club called Bahamut's Wrath that my warrior/priestess uses. It's ridiculously huge, bat shaped, and not subtle. I once used it to fling a bad guy across a very large room. It's fun. ::D:

The second is a bow given to my ranger that is not obviously magical, has no awesome pluses, except that if you tell it "justice is required" and shoot your target, the Wild Hunt shows up and drags them off to their hunting grounds to be hunted for the rest of eternity. It's brutal and mean. I only got to use it on one baddie, and they really deserved it.

well, obviously I'm a fan of lightsabers, and as impractical as they are I love me some batleth...buuuut...

Coinspinner and Townsaver from Saberhagen's swords series are personal favorites...and who can forget Sting...still...

I'm just gonna have to go with a spoon.

...because it's dull, you twit! It will hurt more!

Can't say that there is really just one, but a few of those in the top, inner tier so to speak:

BFG 2000 from Doom

Holy Hand Grenade from Monty Python/Worms

And from my RPG days, probably the Naginata that my Pathfinder monk used. It was a pole arm that he was able to flurry with and he had the ability to enlarge himself at will. 20 foot radius of death! And yes, the GM used very PC friendly rules for character gen. :)
