I've learned over the years that you can't MAKE other people happy.  People control their own happiness, or lack thereof. 

 

We're having traditional canned cinnamon rolls like mom used to make, then opening gifts to each other.  Merry christmas y'all, hope it's a pleasant one.

Youngest didn't get his Big Thing. I expected my dad or the ex's parents to get him The Big Thing. On his list it was listed as Highest Priority.

 

So after gift opening, since eldest's Big Thing had not yet arrived (and was expected post-Christmas), I told a fib and said it was arriving after Christmas, too.

 

Then Amazon Primed it.

I chatted with my brother in Shanghai. Nice getting to listen to his adventure stories teaching out there. 

 

Going to make breakfast for Dad. 

 

Sent Mom pictures of pets wearing reindeer antler headbands. She'll be amused (she gets her gift when she visits in a week).

Made breakfast. Surprised the unsuspecting roommate. Gave Mr. Thorne a catapult - and a NO! button - for his desk.

Also gave him some calligraphy stuff to amuse himself with.

 

Dinner goes in the oven in a few hours. I may also get wild and make sausage rolls. ^^;

I gave my wife her Christmas presents.  We gave her brother some MST3K stuff, including the exclusive poster from the Kickstarter.  (He was a fan of it long before I was.)

 

I lavished attention on my wife's grandmother's dog, which everyone (especially the dog) appreciates.

My wife and I dressed our son up in his Santa outfit and delivered hand made chocolates to the people working at the South Dunedin McDonald's restaurant. We work at the North Dunedin one, but it's the same owner for all three restaurants in town and we all know each other, plus people from all the restaurants were working that day (because they were only rostering people who specifically wanted to work Christmas Day).

Part 1: nope. All the gifts I got and gave were gifty gifts. The closest we come to that is my husband filling my stocking with socks.

Way back when I used to mail out dozens of Christmas cards I would try for something mildly irreverent to yank folks chains. That's about as close to a Christmas prank as I have come.

Extra money was usually hard to come by for most of my gift giving life, SO gifts were what the person actually would enjoy...old habits die hard.

I spent the day with my family.  Played games with my children, made a feast of great food.
