Moderator Froggy the Great Posted November 22, 2002 Moderator Share Posted November 22, 2002 I almost had the opportunity to field a dedicated anti-squishie section last night, consisting of two Pumas, a Vanq and a Knight. It would have been squishiriffic. Then the points cost was dropped, and I had to recalculate. I did get to see an amusing interlude where one of my opponent's mortar stands decided to play that game with the cup and a ball attatched to it with a peice of string. You know how you're supposed to catch teh ball in the cup? Well, this stand decided to try it, but with mortar shells. Then its mate decided that the first stand really wanted to play Catch. Heh. Gotta love Regular/Regular stands that miss target lock.
nadinbrzezinski
That is why they should be atached to a Panther... ::smiles evily:: A Khan with a chainlock pod also works. Smiles even more evily. Nadin
Moderator Froggy the Great Posted November 22, 2002 Moderator Share Posted November 22, 2002 As I also discovered last night. Kahns are very nifty. And oh my goodness, so is the Knight. So yeah, that's my favorite section of the moment.
nadinbrzezinski
I liked Knights from the word go for my Supression units... just from the Stats. Many a times I proxied them with Templars, and now I have honest to goodness Knights, oh my goodness... nifty. For supresion work, two knights, one Vanq and one Warlord as an escort... or just two knights and two vanqs and them squishis are going to be hurting.. though a full section of Knights is not a bad idea either... Moderator Froggy the Great Posted November 22, 2002 Moderator Share Posted November 22, 2002 I like the extended reach that a pair of Pumas gives the supression section though. The knight and vanq together are a very solid core, and complement each other well, but sometimes you just need that little extra 32" to get rid of those pesky mortars. nadinbrzezinski
shhh... or my mortar sections will stop working :D Nadin
Jeremy
I am with Nadin on this one. I have like the Knight from the first time I saw the stats. Fast good armor and can work just as well as anti squishy/CAV work. I actually know a player here in Columbus that wants to concert his Knights for more dedicated suppression. He wants to drop the flamer and add the big PBG from the Warlord, and then to make up for the lost anti-squishy gun he is replacing both racks with bigger IDF racks. Could be very nasty. Leech
Jer, that sounds a lot like the Black Knight mentioned in the JoR - although it has missile packs. But how can a Rexus III help kill squishies or crunchies??? I intend to make a Knight with two PBG's since I don't like flame weapons although I will admit they're very effective - but the range just puts me off. Now a flamer as a secondary weapon would rock!! I haven't used the Knight yet, since I only just got one. I'll have it painted soon though - in time to escort the Ogre :o)
Daley's Dragoons
Wish my JoR would arrive already...hate being in the dark half the time! I do have a question that I am sure has been covered elsewhere but I am to lazy to go hunting for it (hey, at least I am honest about it) in doing a weapon switch, does the model have to have that weapon represented on it, or is it ok to tell your gaming buddy "hey that flamer is really a ....." It seems the answer would be yes since there does not seem to be a problem having figs stand in for others, but was curious what the 'offical word' is. Leech
If your gaming buddies are okay with the "that flamer is a XXX really" then cool. But the official word is that weapon swaps/removals and extra armour have to be represented on the model... so if you plan on taking part in a tournament then make the model with the swap. nadinbrzezinski
Hence cannot wait for the weapons pack and the armor packages, though the latter I know can be modelled with some plasticard.
Jeremy
He is adding the Rexus III to help against hard targets. He is using the IDF racks as his main Infantry killer.
Spire
I've been running a "White Knight" variant with my unit, the White Mice. Replace the Flamer II with a 2nd Rexus PBG and the C7 DFM is replaced by a 2nd C12 IDF pack. Add a Chain Lock pod and the M-34 TL sysetm replaces the N1 Line Lock. It's proved a very tough unit to have running around. Makes a nasty addition to a section, were it can act as a nexus for section's IDF, and a hard support fire unit with both guns (at short range w/TL they are +8 against everything). Leech
Nadin, what armour packs??
nadinbrzezinski
There are none, I am planing to just use some plasticard for that. Cut to size, shape with some green stuff if need be, walla. Nadin
