Adrian Smith's HATE

$120 plus probably $30 shipping ... not sure how I feel about that. There are a couple of things that don't sit well with me. Some of the miniatures are awesome, but I personally do not like the whole "we are so brutal we have to have a whole KS exclusive game because it's rated 18 ... more blood more limbs, cook your enemy". And despite this being "fantasy", some of those armors with all those skulls and heads are simply too exaggerated and almost comical for me.

Furthermore, this being KS exclusive forces every backer to get everything he wants now ... no waiting if retail might be cheaper from a store with free shipping (yeah, stores can get it now from KS, too, but still, it limits options). CMON expansions are often overpriced during KS and the only way to sweeten the deal was to add a KS exclusive miniature (they did that a lot during Green Horde, Massive Darkness expansions didn't have an exclusive and were cheaper at retail).

I also think that having four (?) not yet delivered Kickstarters (though by different studios?) is a great thing (Smog, Rising Sun, Green Horde and Game of Thrones).

Unlocking another tribe piece-meal as stretch goals takes a lot of the fun out for me, too.

So ... not sure yet. Probably ... but not definitely.

Or they could play Shadowspire, Necromunda, Mordheim, or any number of other miniature skirmish games where each figure is unique, rolls dice, and may or may not have a deck of cards.

 

The source material is Adrian Smith's comic book, HATE, so, thematically, you can't change it unless you want do deviate from it. Eric Lang is a big fan of his artwork (remember, he designed The Others, which was also based on Smith's artwork). Eric Lang is Lead Game Director and Adrian Smith is Lead Artist (or whatever titles CMON game 'em) so I'm gonna guess they have some influence over what KS CMON runs. 

 

I think the target demographic are miniature skirmish gamers who need a grid, a bland looking board, and no money spent for video production. <_<

 

CMON has put out second editions before, explicitly with Rum and Bones 2nd edition, and implicitly with the various versions of Zombicide. With this being CMON's second miniatures game, after Song of Ice and Fire, I'll just wait for them to make some sort of second edition of HATE. The Massive Darkness universe would be a good theme for warring factions, namely the different monster races they've already established.

Aside from Hate having more different sculpts the other pricing factor is probably that Green Horde is a generic IP that they own outright while Hate is an IP that's going to take it's share of the profits. While the distinction isn't something that would matter to someone if they don't care about the IP I'm sure it played it's part in deciding the content/price ratio.

Yep! I'm sure the amount of money HATE will pull in is much less than GH, so they'll lose the economy of scale for plastic miniatures.

While the designs are cool, I already have way more Barbarians than I'd ever need, and it doesn't feel that different from "Blood Rage" which I also backed in appearance.  A little more post-apoc, but I wouldn't exactly call the vikings in "Blood Rage" historicals either.

Frostgrave, Mordheim, and Necromunda are also campaigns -- and, unlike HATE, you can read the reviews.

Hm ... getting a bit more interesting ...

 

"Yes, we have heard your feedback and so we are hard at work to create an optional set of rules that will allow players to engage in battles involving 3 or 4 tribes in the same massive battles. Taking advantage of the extra board and extra components we're unlocking, these epic battles will play quite differently from the usual. The core of the Chronicle will still involve one player clashing against another player, but these optional rules will allow players to enter these massive battles at certain points of the Chronicle. These rules are still in development, so we cannot delve too deep into specifics, but we intend to offer 2 on 1 battles, 2 on 2 battles, and free for all battles!

2 vs 2 - Allied Tribes struggle to complete objectives together, having to decide together who will focus on which mission. Will they forego one mission and obliterate the other tribe? Maybe one defends the Huts while the other goes for the Interest tokens...

2 vs 1 - One Tribe struggles to stay alive while being attacking by 2 other allied Tribes. Will the Plateaus and Trees give enough advantage to survive the onslaught? Will this lone Tribe perish against the alliance of two hateful enemies?

Free for All - Enemy Tribes found themselves interested in the same Territory. There is only one way to decide that, fighting against each other to the death.

      Hi Everyone,

      This is my first time sharing my miniatures step by step, and excited to do so. Hopefully I can learn some things and everyone else who views the thread will learn a bit too.
      I have been looking forward to the Starcadia board game and especially painting the minis that come with it. So first up is the Weeble alien monster. I picked it for 2 reasons, 1 because it was a simple model and I wanted to try my hand at the big eye. There are 4 total Weeble models and it took about 4-5 hours to get to the point in the last photo. I decided to mimic the illustration that came on the Weeble card in the game, so I am using a similar color scheme.

      First step was prepping the model, and removing the mold lines. 2 of the 4 models had 2 bad areas on their left fin that left gaps and a rough spot. To fix it, I tried a new method, I put a little varnish on each area. If you haven't tried it, I definitely recommend it for small gaps or trouble areas that need filled or smoothed. I put a small dab on, let it dry and done, no need to pull out the putty.

      2nd step was priming. I don't like the spray can so I use gesso. It might take a little longer, but no noxious fumes and extra space needed, just brush it on and let it dry. I just spread it thin and quick most of the time, hence the streaking in the picture. The streaking never shows on a finished mini from what I have experienced.

      3 is where the fun began for me, choosing the colors and beginning to paint. My most recent elven minis, I started experimenting with different ways to do base coating and time around I am trying a colored base that is different that the final paint layer. I'm trying this out to see if I can reduce a step in my process and still get results I like. After examining the illustration, I settled on a blue-green for the body of the Weeble, and yellow for the eye. I plan on keeping with the warm yellow highlight in the front and the cold blue / purple shadow in the back. Once I decided that, I chose my basing colors, of a dark yellow brown for the front and dark blue purple for the back.

      4 with the base shadows on the model, I started working from dark to light. I mixed up a glaze of a medium green and medium purple blue. I gradually worked up the colors with multiple layers making sure to blend the colors together where the transition occurred between them. I left the eye alone, because the dark yellow brown was perfect for the yellow eye.

      5 once I was happy with the dark colors, I moved on to my mid-tones. I mixed up glazes of yellow green for the warm light and a blue green for the cold light. I took my time on this step again applying the glazes in layers to build up the color. I decided to try reflected / bounce lighting on the model, so I applied the blue green more on top of the model and the yellow green more on the bottom. I imagine the lighting being blue white (like a daylight bulb) which results a warmer reflected light in the areas not directly hit by the blue light.

      6 after a while I moved on to the eye. I continued with painting dark to light, so I chose an orange brown for the light area and the same yellow brown and dark blue purple for the shadowed area. Again I gradually applied the glazes and blended them together.

      Overall I am pleased with the direction it is going, and it is still far from done. I having gotten to the brightest highlights or even attempted the mouth yet. After that will be the finishing touches, the green slime, and scaly lumps. In the illustration the lumps are black but I don't think black will look good, any suggestions? I was also thinking of doing a slime trail, or more drool I've not done something like that before does anyone have any suggestions in the direction? Or should I not do a slime trail or more drool?

      Hello everyone!
      This collection of models is all aquatic themed. There are minis, monsters, and scatter terrain. There are 12 models in the cores set, and 18 stretch goals planned. That is up to 30 models with a buy-all price of $6. Times are tough right now, so I wanted to make something affordable that is still just as awesome.
       MODEL OPTIONS 
      All models come with a no base, simple base, and decorative base option. A $10 pledge gets you all 3 versions in addition to the successfully tested resin pre-supported version.
         THE CORE SET 
                              THE STRETCH GOALS
      Every $500 is a new mini, monster, or piece of scatter terrain. All mounts will have a saddle and no saddle version. More stretch goals will be added to match the funding level. So feel free to leave comments about what else you'd like to see!
