Woot!  Not a problem as I only have the core rulebook (in money saving PDF form) so I'll only be pulling from that.  I've been reading it off and on for a couple of months, but I haven't actually sat down to make a character.

To be honest I've yet to make a full character as well. I was gonna run a test game at ReaperCon this year on Sunday night but I was too worn out from gaming  the entire Con I just wanted to relax with others that evening. So everything will be pretty new for me. 

 

As far as story background. You all don't need to know each other but everyone is heading toward Absalom Station & will be on the same starship that has docked at the station. AS is the central hub for humanity in the SF universe, it sits where the planet Golarian (ie the official setting for Pathfinder) use to sit. Sometime in the past the planet went missing. The reason for visiting or returning to the station, if you want to have AS as your homeworld, everyone has been given a message to meet with a dwarf named Duravor Kreel, a member of the Starfinder Society.

So, assuming that the other characters end up being a Soldier, a Solarian and a pair of Mechanics, I'm going to go with an Android Technomancer.  

 

I was thinking of having the Android's homeworld be part of the Azlanti Empire.  I figure that she was created to provide slave labor and technical support on a Azlanti freighter.  The freighter was taken by some some Pact World pirates and she was 'rescued' and made her way to the Pact Worlds.  My only question was would this work as I got the impression that there has been very little contact between the Pact Worlds and the Azlanti Empire.  I wouldn't have any special knowledge about the Azlanti culture as I was just a slave and had little to know interactions with any real Azlanti crew (I figure most of the crew were the second class subject races).

Kasatha Solarian Mercenary it is for me then. Heading for Absalom station... aye...

I will not have a ton of usefulness on a starship... except as a gunner. I won’t have any of the requisite skills for piloting, engineering, etc. as class skills, so that is less than ideal. If we can’t fill the needed spots, I will change to something else (operative might be good or the mystic). Any volunteers for pilot, engineer, captain?

Captain uses social skills mostly.  So depending on your skills (and your CHA) you might work for that.  I'm a good engineer/science officer.  And an ok pilot.

I’ll print out a sheet today and start putting math to the ideas. I just didn’t want to try to pull captain slot if anyone is interested in that position.

 

How important is healing in this game with technological advances? Do stimpacks (whatever they are called in this future) replace the need for a Mystic healer type?

I haven't done a deep dive into the healing mechanics yet (now I have something to do while it is slow at work today) but they have Serums (potions) of Healing for 50gp.  Additionally you have two pools for damage; Stamina, recoverable after a 10 minute rest and spending 1 Resolve point, and hit points, which is somewhat more difficult to heal.  IIRC Solarians have a 6th level Revelation to heal.

Hmmm... if I end up heading Captain route... and we are working with Starfinder Society, I might shift to Icon and go the “National Geographic / Reality Show” Starfinder route. Especially if we have multiple mechanics that could do some easy film work with drones...

Ways to recover Stamina:

 

- spend 1 Resolution point and rest 10 minutes

-Envoy- Inspiring Boost- 3x envoy level +CHA bonus

Soldier- Blitz, Keep Fighting(9th)- spend 1RP to recover 2d6 + soldier level stamina as move action

 

 

Ways to recover Hit Points

 

-Serum of Healing Mk 1 (50cr) heals 1d8hp

-Medicine skill- Treat deadly wounds- heal 1hp per CR of creature treating.  Beat the DC by 5 and add INT bonus to amount healed. Basic Medkit (100cr) is DC 25

-Medicine skill- Long term care- requires medical bay; DC 30 check, patient recovers hit and ability damage at twice normal rate.

-Rest- 1hp/character level after full nights rest (8+hours)

Mystic- Healing Touch- 1/day heal one ally 5hp per mystic level.  Takes 10 minutes.

Mystic- Healer- Healing Channel- 2d8 hp to self, ally, or all allies within 30ft

Operative- Field treatment- spend 1 minute and 1RP heal 3xlevel hp

Solarian- Glow of Life(6th)- spend 1RP heal 2xlevel hp as move action

Spell Ampule- (varies) any healing spell

Mystic Cure- 1d8+Wisdom bonus

Mending- 1d4hp to object or construct (androids count as constructs) subject can only benefit from this 1/day.
