Which means that 3 time out of 4 instead of subduing someone, you irritate them and since they at guards or other security, they have bigger guns than you.

It's not realky an issue for you.  The problem has been there since the early days of DND.  I just continue to hope that one day one of the major systems will fix non-lethal combat.  Shadowrun and traveller did pretty good jobs of it so i had hopes.  I am not really expecting Xap to play a major part in combat other than skill monkey and bandaid carrier so it shouldn't be a problem.

You could combine your roles and be a monkey band carrier.

I think one of the problems is that, in D&D and its derivatives at least, non-lethal combat IS lethal combat.  Knocking someone out just allows you to kill them at a later time, so they can't make it too easy.  In order to have an incentive to use non-lethal combat, you would need a setting that frowns upon murdering everyone who you get into a scrap with.

We are all hoping Xap plays a major role in combat.  Major ranged combat.  I can certainly shift into it, but my class is strongly designed for melee if the Solar Weapon is chosen.  Our Soldier is also strongly melee focused.  At level 5 I'll at least get better bonuses to ranged attack and I can pick up some movement skills through my class, so I'll work on being a hybrid attacker.  But late game, my strength is going to be strongly skewed toward melee (the bonuses and abilities there are significant).

I will also work on being able to attack from range and melee, but I will be very melee focused initially at least, and will probably never be better at ranged than I am at melee unless I have a significantly better rifle.

Either way, we'll see.  This is Paizo's first Starfinder adventure so who knows how they think as far as combat goes.  Maybe we will dominate by punching people and stabbing them with not-lightsabers.

Xap can shoot, and will be able to contribute there but its not his strong suit.  He is specialized to slip in and slip out and perform recon.  I did that because the group is pretty well combat oriented.  I tried to build him to match his history as a part of the engineering crew on a generation ship where everyone must be able to handle multiple functions because there is no going back for replacements ::D:

Of course if you are going to get into trouble is such conditions, you also better be really good at covering your tracks and hiding (like when the captain's music collection wound up on the public file sharing system and Xap had to live in the duct system for 4 days...)

I do see the point with non-lethal combat.  both traveller and Shadowrun can have serious reprecussions for killing indiscriminately and, by circumstance or intent, most of the real strong badguys have immunities or protections from those same drugs.  We will play it straight and if we get our hands on some drugs the syringe system can be available ::D:

I know you just wanna re-enact the Death Star torture scene!!::P:

Apologies for myself not chiming in on rules discussions. I'm still learning the system but seeing the posts here help me understand the game more.

One of the great opportunities in playing a game on the forums is the ability to actually discuss rules and actions in detail before moving on the story line without eating up an entire play session on one round of action.

I will admit to trying the non-lethal systems in most games.  it makes less than happy companion PCs when I don't let them kill the knockouts, but a reasonably appreciated GM when the party actually wakes up from a TPK, at least until they figure out that they have no equipment, their magic has been taken from them and the room is filled with hungry bears...

I'll have a post up tomorrow. I've been reading up on things for Starfinder. Just trying to make this as smooth as possible + if I'm able to make it to RCon this year, I may run a SFS game. Every little bit helps!!

Yes... and no...

Many monsters only have HP (and any converted monsters are recommended to have 25% more health to accomodate the change  - p.501)

NPCs don't generally have Resolve points, but can have stamina (p.242 Significant Enemies can restore stamina to other NPCs in a fight)

p.250 is probably the most helpful though, as it says "If a creature doesn’t have Stamina Points, damage is subtracted directly from its Hit Points."

Also on 250 it states that "Most Monsters and NPCs don't have Resolve points", so even if the listed statblock has Stamina, they are not refillable like PCs are unless they have a Significant Enemy aka Boss that can refill it for them.

Does that help?

Perfect! I looked in the back of the book for Stamina & it pointed just to the character creation section. Online pretty much gave me the same thing but on people's web pages they set up  for Starfinder rules.
