If you could keep any mythical beast as a pet, what would it be? And what changes to your life/living situation would you make in order to make it possible for you to keep such a creature as a pet?

I'd say either a werewolf or a (male) kitsune.  Seems like good choices, since Nagas are a tad too devious and treacherous, hyppogriffs kind of need an area to roost and the living room already is tight enough.

Assuming mythos were extended to things like Pokemon or Digimon, I suspect having a Lucario (Pokemon) or Metal Greymon (Digimon) would be rather nice to have around.  Imaging going grocery shopping with either of those! ^_^ If it were one that's more human sized though, Goamon could be pretty awesome to have around.

Probably wouldn't have to make many changes for most of those, other than getting a bigger fridge and stove/oven, and put a proper graphics card into the HTPC so that they'd have their own gaming rig.

The goose that lays the golden eggs.

No major changes needed, but an apartment with an extra bedroom for it to live in would be good.

This probably isn't going to surprise anyone.

DRAGON!

... this would likely require some considerable remodeling of the basement, and it would not be a /pet/, precisely. One does not simply keep a dragon as a pet. One enters into a working relationship with a dragon, and both parties work to insure it's success.

Which of your New Year's Resolutions have you already broken?

(You can also list the one's you have kept up. ::D: )

I don't make resolutions. I never have. Right now Hubby and I have a Course of Action in place and we're sticking to it.

I would gladly consent to being a dragon's human. We would, of course, have to live in the dragon's cave or lair, which is fine by me. I am good at organizing things, so I can catalog the dragons treasure, complete with a spiffy spreadsheet. I'm also a good cook, so I can provide my master with plenty of cookies and cake ^_^

It's a toss-up between a Dragon, Pegasus, and a Hippogriffon.

I would have to buy a new house with enough land to have a large enough stable for my new "pet".

Is it bad that when I look at houses the primary consideration is: a) a room large enough to house my gaming table & "stuff" (DF terrain, mini's, books), b) can I re-purpose a room for painting mini's, and c) at least 1 guest room? A&B can be combined if large enough & C is optional.

I want a jhereg. They're cat sized venomous dragons with telepathic ability (in a fav book series at least). They're highly intelligent creatures.

I would need to give it a proper roost in my house, and have a supply of carrion for it to eat. Otherwise it could fly around during geology field work with me, and keep itself occupied in general. Since it is reptilian, it would be low on allergens. Maybe it could come to the office with me (could require opening the window for it to fly in).

I currently have Rafters the bat, Zippo the alcohol hummingbird, and a fire-breathing duck.

A talking T-rex and I think he will be capable enough to make his own adjustments in our neighbourhood.

I would also ride him to work...

There are a lot of tempting options, but in the end, I think I have to go with a gelatinous cube.  It's low maintenance, it's got a practical benefit as the ultimate waste disposal system, and should I somehow end up in some nefarious dealings (which would never happen, of course ), it can be used to take care of evidence of that, too.  I'd just need to put a pit in the back yard to contain it.  And maybe some kind of fencing to keep people from falling into it.

Tinker Bell, or a Tinker Bell look-a-like Faerie. She would fit right in; we could have such wonderful times together; AND Folks who are familiar with my place would just accept her as part of the general strangeness of it all.

I fell in love with Tinker Bell as a boy. It is a love that has endured through all these years. I would image that makes it true love.

Damnit, Neighbor Tom's Cat who has decided that I am his person, has attained Mythical Status, at least in his own fuzzy little mind. He is  Damnit The First & Only King Of The Pecan Grove.

First thought was dragon. The only major life change would be to find or dig a cave big enough for it. Unless it's a shape changing dragon. Had a thing for the elf/silver dragon girls from Dragonlance way back. Hmm, now there would be a major life change. The wife doesn't let us have a dog because she doesn't want to clean up after it. Not sure she'd let me keep a pretty elf girl/dragon.

But then I saw pegasus. That would be perfect for me. I've got grass and there's no cow gonna outrun me on one of them. What's the air speed of a pegasus? That might even make the commute back and forth from town faster.

Gold Dragon - for several reasons.

  1. They are the most dedicated to fighting evil - feels like we could do with more of that in the real world.
  2. They are wise and worldly and freely share knowledge with anyone who asks - feels like I could do with more of that in my world.
  3. They will build their own mansion like lair - that's the kind of lifestyle change I could put up with! ::D:

I'm a huge fae/fairy fan as well, but not sure I'd claim one as a pet. A friend? Roommate? Sure. ^_^

Mythical creature as a pet? That's hard, since most of the ones I like are sentient and good and not "pet" status types.

I haven't broken one yet. If anyone is curious:

1) Spend less on hobbies

2) Clear at least 50 games in my backlog

3) Paint at least 20 miniatures to tabletop+ quality

4) Reduce sugar intake

5) Find a better place of employment or make the current workplace better
