What makes you trust people?

It takes a lot. Even people who have known me for decades don't really get full trust. Been burned too many times.

What makes you trust people?

Evil Overlord Tip #71:  If I decide to test a lieutenant's loyalty and see if he/she should be made a trusted lieutenant, I will have a crack squad of marksmen standing by in case the answer is no.

Seriously.  Having my trust in someone truly violated repeatedly, and finally in a place in my mind where I can see and deal with it properly, trust is difficult for me right now.  I have a handful of trusted lieutenants (5, currently).  The rest are in the outer circle with limited information.

This...with the exception that like some, I worked retail for too long, i have an inherit level of distrust of most people

Retail, Food Service, and Customer Service (until fired back in November) myself for 19 years.  People are great.  The Public at large, not so much.  I always made a distinction between people and the public when I was working.  I worked with some great people.  I had to deal with the public.  It made itself a faceless mass in my mind (think Jubilex), and made coping with the virulent anger that was thrown at me constantly so much easier to deal with.

I generally don't.

Empirical evidence that they are trustworthy.  I don't automatically distrust people, but I don't automatically trust them either.  I let them prove themselves trustworthy.

This is what is takes to change the above statement.

Who says I do?

Basically, what Glitterwolf said.

There are lots of things and people that I rely on.  I rely on the postal service to bring me my post.  I rely on my mechanic to fix my car.

Trust?  That's a whole different ball game.

After being screwed over on several important things, I... Don't really trust all that many.  It takes a lot to get even remotely close, and some argue it's virtually impossible to get into my "inner circle"

With work it's a whole different ballgame, but that's because I'm being paid, and I'm the coffee guy.  Previous retail jobs were a case of Armageddon mixed with distrust, at least towards the public :p  at work I can be mostly won over with cookies, especially if they're from Cookie Love.  Omg they have awesome cookies.

I have been around longer than most of you; AND I have been given some pretty good reasons not to trust Folks.

That said, I am alive...pretty much. I am a card carry member of humanity. As such I extend to members of the Brother & Sisterhood of Man the same trust & respect that I expect from them.

I can handle being proved wrong, but I can't live in a vacuum. Cynicism is a poor defense, ultimately isolating, & cowardly. As Helen Keller put it: "Life is an adventure or it is nothing at all."

I chose to take my chances & swash my buckle through life.

Question for Jan 18:

Are you a prompt person? Why or why not?

Usually, yes. I absolutely hate being late. However, if I don't have a set time or deadline, it is easy for me to flounder and procrastinate.

I'm that guy that hates being late so I leave with 2x the amount of time needed to get there just in case something happens.  So I usually end up early...but I don't want to be too early, so I drive around aimlessly till I'm supposed to be there and arrive exactly on time.
