Ok, this isn't a New year's resolution ( I don't make those), but I have decided that I need to get over the "I'm not good enough" thing and try to push myself to paint all those figures that I've been saving for 'some day'.

That day is NOW.

I grabbed this figure during a Black Friday sale for something like 4 or 5 bucks. Depending on where you get it from, it's usually more like 30. It's 28mm scale, but it stands pretty tall; I'm guessing it's 54mm tall or thereabouts. I'll get a proper picture with Sir Forscale a little bit later on.

I'd like you to help push me to do my absolute best with this guy, please. If you think something looks good, cool, tell me that. By the same token, if you think something doesn't look good, tell me that, too. I want you guys to 'break out the red pen' as Cyradis would say.

For reference, this is the figure I'm talking about (picture from the WWW, not my figure).

I stand (actually, sit at my computer) in awe of you, for I have had the box set of the three of those figs for like... almost six years, and am still too intimidated to get to painting them.

You have my support in this endeavor.

I promise to monitor this thread and provide support and critique as you go.  You have set the bar high by providing us a comparison tool at the start...

But if you focus, I know you can manage this and impress us as well as yourself with what you achieve!

If you like, show us what colourscheme you're going for and show us the actual paints you will be using/at your disposal..

That way we can help with colour choices, what to mix/blend etc..

Block in the major colours and start from there, tell us what you like to achieve.

When you are satisfied with it, it is done.

That sounds good, but I haven't decided on a color scheme yet. I'm thinking about going darker than the picture from Scibor, though.

Thank you, I hope I can do it justice.

Quick pic to give you all an idea of size.

...and here he is (almost) completely assembled; I left the horns off allow for filling of holes with GS.

That is an impressive miniature. The base is a BEAUTY. I think you will find that the size of the miniature makes it a little easier to paint. All the details are enlarged; there will be no eye strain on this Lad.

I've eyeball these for quite some time. I didn't realize how large they were. Hmmmm

Will watch this one come together.

And it has begun!

Nothing terribly impressive yet, I just finished the green stuffing and assembly. I also got a coat of primer on him. I was gonna do him him grey, but the resin is grey and i wanted to be able to tell if I missed spots, so I did him sorta terra-cotta/fleshy colored.

....which just made me realize that he's almost all skin. What was I thinking?!? I'm really not all that great at skin.

Well, this IS supposed to be my 'no more i'm not good enough' figure, so here goes nothing.

I haven't forgotten about this, I've just been in a bit of a funk the past couple weeks. I went out and got myself a wet pallet to start using with this guy, and then I didn't even open the darn thing. I'm hoping it'll help me out; I know it's not a magic fix it uper, but I've been having a hard time working on his skin so far because I'm either not making enough of the color I want, or it dries up and I need to remix some more, hoping I got the ratios correct.

It's a little hard to tell, but I've done some more work on his skin.

      Ok, here are the rules:
      1) Please don't sign up if you were there, or if you had someone get you stuff from the con. This is supposed to be for people who weren't there. No, I'm not going to check, but the gods will know, and they will visit a terrible vengeance upon you.

      2) Unlike the regular version of the BoGW that you may be familiar with, you don't need to match anything you take. All of this stuff was donated by people to allow other people to get some cool stuff. So, take whatever you want (but see below).

      3) No sharing your picks. If it works out that everyone involved gets to pick 3 figures but you only want 2, you can't pass that extra figure choice down the line to someone else. Everyone gets to have the same amount of stuff, unless someone chooses to take less. If there's stuff left over, send it back to me and it'll get folded into the next regular Box of Goodwill. (Exact number of choices will be based on the amount of people signing up)

Most of the stuff this time around is metal and resin miniatures. There are no Bones (I did receive a few of the monthly Bones giveaway figure, but they're all the same figure, and I was probably only going to throw in a few to round out numbers if it becomes necessary, otherwise, I was going to put them in the regular BoGW). There are a few non-miniature items, such as bags, dice, etc. There are not enough of these items to go around, so if you want a bag, for example, that counts as one of your picks.

Any other questions, please let me know.

Would there be interest in/support for doing this again this year?

This is the basic idea behind it for those not familiar:

The past couple Reapercons that I've been at, I have noticed a fair amount of swag bag/con exclusive figures that people didn't want getting tossed onto the melt table and/or left laying around.
I had the idea of collecting all the unwanted stuff, putting it in a box and shipping it around to folks who couldn't get to the 'con so that they could sort of 'be there, too'.

Unlike the regular BoGW, people donating wouldn't get anything out of the box, they would just be 'throwing away' the stuff they don't want in a slightly different direction. Maybe there would be a ribbon involved, maybe it might just be the thanks of people who will benefit done the line.

Once again my buddy with the minotaur character fixation asked me to find a minotaur for him that I can convert into a monk.  Given that most are armed and armored ... I understood his dilemma.

      Thrym's Table presents:

      Spellcrow Minotaur as
      Minotaur Monk

Original marketing image; copyright Spellcrow Miniatures.

The first things that had to go were the axes.  The hands were attached to axes on a separate sprue and made it easy to remove them.  Next I drilled out the old handle and cleaned up the pins to the wrists.

Fairly easy so far.  I did it during game night while playing Talisman.  I was the Sprite.

Next I pared back the horns to create a pin and to create a better profile.  The stock horns seemed a bit out of proportion to him.  When I got home my original plan was to place pieces of mini cable ties to create a Karnak look for his fists.  The cable tie I started with worked to a point but wouldn't lay flat enough to his hand.  So time for idea #2, wire.

As you can see, Karnak has bands around his hands.

That worked well.  That gave me the idea for a necklace or medallion swinging away from him.

      Here he is...

      Enjoy and stay tuned.

Ok, I've got the box organized and packed; hopefully I can make to the post office Monday to start it on it's way.

      Here's the list:

      Ratmaster 2000--arrived 10/31, sent 11/1
      SGhawkins 09--arrived11/2, sent 11/10
      ShadowPhase--arrived 11/13, sent 11/16
      Strawhat--arrived 11/19, sent 12/1
      GlitterWolf--arrived 12/10
      RobinH--arrived 1/8, sent 1/9
      Necromancer---arrived 1/14, sent 1/16
      Generic Fighter--arrived 1/18, sent 1/22
      Disserma--arrived 1/24, sent 2/6
      RedAmbrosia--arrived 2/8, sent 2/26
      Ttuckerman--arrived 2/28, sent 3/1
      Fire Eyes--arrived 3/4, sent 3/15
      Chris Palmer--arrived 3/18, sent 3/20
      Sanael

If there's anything left, send it back to me, and it'll get put into the next (regular version) BoGW that happens.

There are enough items included for everyone to make four (4) picks. After you've grabbed some stuff, seal it back up and send it the next person. This is all based on the generosity of people at Reapercon, so there's no need to put anything back in; this is a straight up gift.
There are 2 pairs of sunglasses in there; they don't have anything to do with Reaper/Reapercon other than that they were in the swag bag, and (I'm guessing) donated by the city of Denton. If you want a pair take 'em, they don't have to count as one of your 4 items, unless your conscience dictates otherwise.
If you want to help out with international shipping fees (and no one is under any obligation to do so) contact Strawhat, GlitterWolf, or RobinH to work something out.

A big THANK YOU!! to everyone who donated stuff for this to happen.
