Also having a bit of inspiration from Picasso's blue period. The lion's mane is a lot coarser on shading than the face.

Texturing to one cheek. Will probably give it some smoothing glazes.

Yet more fur. Nose next! I hope I can smooth it out by hiding the not-smooth blends there under texture.

He's nearing completion. He's at an odd point where I could keep going on and on, but I also really like him as-is. I toned down the lines by his nose, and I am changing the mounting - he's getting a magnet on his back so that he can connect to a magnet on a rod, rod going into a simple square plinth. I got a cheap brass rod, and I'll be painting it and the plinth black (or Nightmare Black - so kinda blue). This will be a more elegant mount than originally planned, and it will let me transport it better as I can just disconnect him from the mounting. Before sticking the rod in the plinth, I'll use it as a handle for touch-ups and whatnot. 

 

The back of the lion will be Nightmare Black. Currently primed and waiting for superglue to dry the magnet onto him.
