It's live. https://kickstarter.com/projects/dwarvenforge/caverns-deep-by-dwarven-forge-handcrafted-game-ter?ref=hero_thanks

I'm number 29, in for the base unpainted pledge. I have the original caverns, so I don't think I want to go huuuuuge on this, but my last few entry level pledges crept up quite a bit by the end.

I'm still waiting on my #5- I built my own collection out of addons, given that I already had a good start on the original dungeons.

I hope they add the 'let's throw a little bit of the new stuff at our long running fans' addon again.

Sigh,  I thought the whole point of the plastic Dwarven forge stuff was that it was supposed to be lighter and less expensive than the dental plaster.  The value for the first few kickstarters was great, good, okay.  The castle became poor and since then I may as well be buying custom resin pieces.  for comparison, my $350 investment filled more than half of my 4x8 table of tight warrens and 485 more filled it to capacity with caverns.

Don't get me wrong, their pieces are always beautiful and the collections are amazing.  However, the kits have become more and more specific and more and more complex making it much more time consuming to make your own configurations or even assemble the ones shown.  i have also noticed a tendency for things like the sewers to spread and fall apart during normal play.

Sorry for the downer but I like pretty things.   I don't like pretty things I can't afford to get any of.  Its what kept me from buying any of the dental plaster sets and its what is keeping me from any of these sets.  Maybe someday I will live around someone with these and get to enjoy them.

I think their focus has been from the less expensive generic dungeon tiles for gaming to the more expensive boutique end for dioramas. Seems reasonable, considering that KS has allowed other companies (eg. Forge Prints, Secret Weapon) to enter the market with their own DF-compatible tiles that are budget-friendly, but not as high-end as DF. The 2.5K pledge level is already gone. IMO, two-and-a-half thousand dollars is a lot of money.

But DF has shown itself to be worth it for their target audience, and they're still supporting them. I prefer having tons of inexpensive generic tiles thrown down on a table for a sprawling boardgame dungeon, rather than specialized pieces for an RPG encounter. There will be another game tile KS from someone soon enough!

It will be interesting to see how 3D printing will affect this to. For $500 you can by Fat Dragons basic 3D files, a 3D printer, and enough filament to make as many basic sungeon tile as you might ever need. I would guess this would make the one off's, LED, and unique tiles DF is moving toward to fit a better niche than the more generic stuff they created i. The first two KS's.

My entry level pledges generally creep up quite a bit by the end also.

Am I the only one excited by the last 2 encounter?  a forest guys... a FOREST !!!

I have been annoying DF on their forums to see if they can do trees, so it will be very interesting to see what they have come up with.

DF understands the dynamic. They aim for prepainted, LED and magnetic pieces, and complex designs that the more entry level competitors can't match. But doing this means that their prices keep rising, too.

Sigh I know they have to work towards their market.  Doesn't stop me from hoping.

As for 3d printed terrain. You trade money for time.  I bought some town files and they don't look near as good and it takes a day to print a single house.  Add the missteps because I'm not that good with a 3d printer and I really have to question if their worth it.  Otoh I would like some variety at less than 200 dollars a square foot

I havent had a chance to look more closely when not on my phone, but I am hoping I can prioritize things like elevation and bridges.

As tempting as the ice is, I am going to try and resist due to cost.

As for forests, I have been wanting forest, grass, and tree related tiles since KS1! I hope I can afford them!

I went into the last KS (DoD KS5) only thinking about dungeons so I chose to make the hard choice to forgo burrows.

In the end I expect that I will have to make some hard choices this year also.

Dwarven Forge just keeps make a heck of a lot of awesome.
