Were there terrain trays for sale separately in 5? Considering some with a few pieces, but not sure how necessary or how flexible in variety sets would be. Keeping an eye out for comments on received ones to gauge my own interest. Is it better to get edge pieces and fake the negative space or get the tray and make do with edges of negative space (only have Tablescapes)

Yes and I failed to add them (except in the sets). They work nicely for picking up and moving things and for making sure thing stay aligned with lots of negative space.

Terrain trays are a winner in my book. My wife wasn't expecting to like them, but they won her over, too. Definitely planning to pick up more when they go on sale.  They are very rigid, and the covering prevents you from slicing yourself, as happens with similar sheets we've tried to DIY from hardware stores. They form a very strong bond with the KS5 magnet pieces.

So the seam is actually where the edge of the tiles is designed to hide. We have the plastic grid add on, and it perfectly covers right up to the edge of the tray's cloth. It threw us at first also, but since the magnets are more in the middle of the 2x2, it works out.

Terain trays were a winner for me. No way I wanted as many lava tiles as I'd need to build some builds, and this way I can put lava or water or whatever I want right up next to dungeons or caves or whatever... We've got water, lava, acid, and dungeon stone now; KS6 will be adding cave stone, quicksand, festering floor, standing and running cave water, icy sheet and snowy rock, necrotic sludge and bottomless pit. That's a lot of options... Oh - and they carry setups for you.

I'm sure today trees are way beyond ne. I guess the big question I have is do I want to pay a ton for a minimal amount of pieces down the road, or just do some messy foam stuff that doesn't look as good but serves the purpose now and put the money to a 3d printer

i hope there will be an option for the tree tiles without the canopy. it will obstruct the view too much imho

I agree. While having one or two might be nice, practicality says that I won't use very many all that often. It is the same with the roofs from City Builder. They just don't see much gameplay.

OK, looks like the plastic grid was misleading.  When I put DOD pieces on, there is a 2mm x 2mm seam left if I squeeze the pieces together.  Talae is definitely right about a seam being present.  My bad.

Doesn't show up well in the photos I tried to take, though.  But in person, if you use one of the non stone grids and cover it all with pieces, the underlying acid or lava texture will peak through in the gaps and be noticeable, making it less sneaky if you plan to have an event where the floor collapses and leaves some unpleasant hazard behind.

Yeah, they messaged back pretty fast.

It's a bit more than I want to spend to figure out if I'll get anything, but... I think that's the way to go.

I was a late backer for KS IV -- just sent them an message request and they gave me access to the pledge manager.  However I can't guarantee they will do that again.

But why wouldn't they?  They keep throwing things out at the end of the campaign.  How could they expect anyone to sort out the bombardment of info?
