Moose are actually native to Eurasia as well as North America.

 

It's just that over there they call them elk (Latin name Alces alces).

 

I have ancient Roman coins with images of moose on them.

 

So ... these critters are pure Old World as well as new.

I was just thinking that otters and elk would be more historically & regionally appropriate than beavers and moose (which are more regionally specific).
