Experimenting with some new transparent paints I got to produce a lighting effect, think it turned out pretty well. I'm probably going to have to go over it to get the base colors and I'm not sure I'll be able to make it look this good again, so thought I should get a couple photos.

Hmm and hmm. The more I work on this one the more I think that no further coloring is needed on the clothing. I really like the lighting effect. Anyway, did some more highlights on the flame, maybe too much red. Also did the skin, still need to highlight the crystals, detail the flames, and maybe clothes?

Brought up the skin and crystals to light blue, then drybrushed through lighter shades of blue on the crystals, to give the effects of gems. Not quite there yet, but planning on doing a dark blue wash and then some more light highlights at the tips? also planning on shading the shadows of the skin back down to purple with some glaze.

Touched up the fire and icefire, think they're done, just need to get the skin and crystals to a place I like and decide if I'm going to try to shade the clothes.

Oh god disaster. Well no, not quite, but it's far too far from perfection for me... LEND ME YOUR EYEBALL... expertise, SO THAT I MIGHT uh draw eyes. btw First Bona Fide eyeball detailing, so be kind, not too kind though. I've seen some youtube tutorials and that's about it.

 

Started out black the whole eye area, then white over it, then about 10 tries to get the pupils, then trying to clean up the eye sockets. I think I have the shape pretty good, my main question is should there be some white above the pupil? Or should it just go straight to the eyelid like that? I know I still need to go in and clean up the whites more, but I'm going to do that monday probably. Please comment if you have helpful advice! Or just to say you suck lol.

My first instinct is "there's too much white".  Mostly under the eye.  You should be able to gradually bring the lower lid up until it looks better.

My initial thought for the eye is that the white is too bright for the colors you are using at the moment. On the other hand, her left eye (the right one when facing the miniature) has more of a curve than a point. I cannot explain in words how to correct it, but I'll give it a shot. Start with a brush that can hold a strong point. Place near the eye and perform a slow sweeping motion while pushing up towards the eye. Faust does a better job of showing the motion.

Thanks for the input, I had actually been using this video as a basis for painting eyeballs, but I had never thought to note the brush motion. I think I've got it acceptable at the moment though, I'll have to try that on the next mini.

 

She still looks a bit bug eyed though, the mini has like raised pupils or something built into the sculpt, so I just tried to paint the raised areas. I'll put some pics up tomorrow.

 

Oh I should probably clarify my earlier statement was more of a rhetorical whinge than a request for instruction. I think I have the theory down, I just have trouble putting in paint.

Practice is the way to go, I think.  I used to practice painting just the eyes on a half dozen miniatures as warm up for the miniature I am actually working on.  That way I get my body position right, my eyes and light are adjusted, and I can judge whether I've had too much caffeine to seriously attempt painting eyes.

Alright got the eyes as good as they're going to get right now, still look a bit bug-eyed I think, but good. Also did some touches on the armor and clothes detail and highlighted the crystals a bit more. Sorry for the harsh lighting I wanted to be sure to get the eyes.

Hokay, so first attempt at osl, might be a little too drastic? Please tell me what you guys think, I wasn't sure how to shade the blue skin with yellow and red from the fire so I just glazed it over.
