Showcase Miniature Suggestions?

Recommended Posts

Been doing a lot of batch painting lately and I would like to take a break and focus on a single model to paint to a high standard. Reaper has so many miniatures that it can be hard to look through them and pick one.

You guys got any suggestions on what I should pick?

What do you think are some of the best sculpts by Reaper, or just ones you personally like?

Leaning towards a female character or a monster but not limited to that (considered doing one of the dragons).

That's kinda difficult, I like the Evil minis like Undead, Reptiles and Monsters, others like Knights, Elves etc.

I think this one is awesome, you can paint gems and do freehand on the cloth.

Or this lovely Female Giant

But do tell, what are your favorite minis?

What kind of colours do you love to paint.

Nope, not letting you have any of them.

But, go for Giant sizes, or Warlord minis.

Larger minis means better detail, usually, and you can do better and more gradual highlights and shades.

And it's easier to add details such as freehand tattoos and stuff to ake it really pop.

That's both females and monsters, sometimes both at the same time...

Well I got the frost wyrm which I think is pretty cool. Most of my experience is painting 40k Imperial guard, historical miniatures, Star Wars: imperial assault models, some reaper fantasy stuff here and there. I tend to like undead (not Zombies though) stuff, fantastical stuff like dragons and griffons, women in practical armor, knights and heavily armored warriors.

I got some new Vallejo air blues that I would like to try out, also been messing with their air metallics which I really like. I still struggle painting human skin so I didn't plan on painting a barbarian in chainmail bikini.

Also not looking for specifically a female monster, in fact for monsters I would prefer male. But would prefer a female character

This model has a lot of what i'm looking for, only problem is I hate the way the dragon looks.

A bonus with Warlord minis is that many of them aren't represented in the Inspiration Gallery, or have painted pictures in the store.

In other words, it might be slightly easier to get a picture of your mini posted there...

Reaper used to have a couple 54mm female figures which I think would make great showcase pieces.  Unfortunately it looks like they have mostly been discontinued, so you'd need to find a secondhand source to pick them up.  Two that I remember are Finari and Monique De Noir.  Both of them have been turned into 28mm figures, which are still sold by Reaper.  But I think the 54mm versions were much neater.
