Cyradis
I haven't read Toothless or Mushu on these lists. I am disappointed. 6

All Time: Book: Movie: Miniature: Game System: All time: that's a toughie...I think, for the place held in my adolescence, I'll have to say Ruth from the PERN books. Book: there are several, and most of those mentioned by others are on the list... But I'll go with either Fanhuil from Daniel Hood's excellent "A Familiar Dragon" mysteries, or Goodboy "Errol" Bindle Featherstone of Quirm, a lovely little swamp dragon from Pratchett's Discworld. Movie: was there any doubt? Elliott, of "Pete's Dragon." The 1977 original, of course...I haven't seen the 2016 remake, but I doubt it's as good. Mini: No contest at all: Narthrax. Julie Guthrie is the true Mother of Dragons! Although I'm also quite fond of Kevin Williams' Western Desert Dragon. Game: Quite possibly Khisanth from Dragonlance.

All Time: Book: Movie: Miniature: Game System: All Time: Don't really have one that stands out on top of all of the others... Book: Scarlet, from the Sword of Truth series Movie: Probably Draco from Dragonheart... With a close second place given to Mushu from Mulan. Miniature: Tough call on this one. While I love my Ebonwrath (who I really should free from his plastic prison), Wyrmgear is pretty interesting.... As is Ma'al Drakar. Game System: No idea at all.

All Time: Book: Movie: Miniature: Game System: All time: I rather like Dunkelzahn. He was quirky. Book: Since I haven't read any of the Shadowrun novels, I have to default to Smaug. Movie: Also Smaug, based entirely on the Rankin & Bass The Hobbit movie. Miniature: Wyrmgear, mostly because I find the idea of a clockwork dragon amusing. Game System: No preference here.

Convincing looking flames. Regular flames aren't that difficult as there are tons of references. But then I tried "magical blue" flames, and I wasn't sure what sort of shades to use. Normal flames have a wide range of warm colors: yellow, orange and red. Magic flames have pale blue, mid blue, and dark blue? Overall, it works, but still suffers from the "could be better" syndrome. It only took me 5 years to discover the rest of the series. But I did find her Lyra series. I once wrote her a letter asking for more books about Lyra. She kindly responded, pointing me to her then-soon-to-be-released anthology. It was pretty neat to get a letter from someone I thought of as a huge celebrity 8 hours ago, Cyradis said: I haven't read Toothless or Mushu on these lists. I am disappointed. Other movie ‘dragons’ exhibit a failure to be dragons because the CGI people fish out their degrees in developmental biology (that were issued by their college of Art ) and all that SCIENCE™️ tells them that if dragons are vertebrates then they can have only two pairs of limbs. And thus, even movie Smaug is reduced to a Wyvern like his predecessor Vermithrax. Very annoying. (Movie makers never ever make the same screw-up when they need to depict a Pegasus... ...why is that?) But Malificent the Magnificent has two wings and four legs (and animators that knew when to trap the science majors in a broom closet).

Dilvish the Deliverer
It's useful tool. It helps me while away down time. I don't live on it like some (my kids). It's nice to be able to look things up and have Awesome Wife send me a shopping list when I'm swinging by the store. 6

Both a Bane and a Burden. I use it to keep in contact with the girls ( whatsapp). But I'm getting more and more dependent on it because I need it to do my banking famong other things. When I transfer money ( on PC Internetbanking) my Smartphone gives me a validation code. Without it I can't transfer money anymore. And the banks have informed us that they will take it a step further soon. Just one of the things that are implemented to make us dependent on the stupid things.. 7
Werkrobotwerk
33 minutes ago, TaleSpinner said: February 7: What are your thoughts on modern smart phones and how much do you rely on one? well mine is about 3 years old at this point so I'm not entirely sure it counts as modern... There's stuff I like and stuff I don't touch interface tends to be implemented well on them, and they can do a lot of stuff, but there's a bad tendency to make EVERYTHING ad supported, or data collection spyware. mobile email, and the camera are both super useful, mobile internet could be great if there were a way to do things like tell it "don't ever load in line videos" and to force sites to never have audio/video ads on mobile sites. also if mobile sites weren't mostly dubiously functional. battery life tends to be an issue. I've been holding off on upgrading because I couldn't find a new one that seemed ok that had replaceable battery. I kind of think I'd like to separate out the phone function from the rest of the functions. rely on one? only in the sense my apartment does not have a land line
