I keep my credit cards in a front pocket wallet and always use them when possible, while the back pocket wallet with the cash can take me over a year to get rid off. Unless I go to a flea market, I hardly ever need to take out any kind of money. Special exceptions are when traveling abroad. Like my trip to Japan last fall; or China and Mongolia five years ago. Then having hard cash is essential. Edited February 9, 2018 by Cranky Dog

I don't like swiping a card for small purchases (my info gets hijacked often enough it seems, no reason to swipe more often than necessary. I also like to make sure I have enough cash to be able to tip in cash.I like to leave it up to the servers to decide how much they want to report for tax purposes or if it's a tip pool place. I especially want to make sure that the tips go to the servers and not to the owners. I always pay with cash at any restaurant. Never do I use plastic there. I fear the possibility of fraud in the places where the server wanders off with the Card. Or worse, where they have those WiFi, swipe at the table, Kiosks (very Star Trek-ish those things). But I refuse to have my card info zapped around inside the dining area where anybody could filch it out of thin air. And why would I want my credit card company to know what my favorite restaurants are? Or how often I get pizza? Or how much, if any, alcohol I get up to... ...some things should be cash.

(This questions stems from an encounter a the CS this morning where the guy in front of me used a credit card to buy a $1 cup of coffee and it got me wondering.) I pay for everything that isn't online in cash. I don't have a credit card. SO I always have cash on me, although not more than I think I will need. 20 hours ago, redambrosia said: Hmmm... methinks @TaleSpinner is trying to figure out which of us would be best to level up his pick pockets skill... devious sir, very devious. ...YET ANOTHER instance of The Great Minds Thingy. February 10: Do you plan on watching the Winter Games? February 11: What is your favorite winter sport? #1 No, Hadn't realised that it had already started. The wife likes to watch the opening and closing ceremonies so there's a chance we'll watch it yet if we can find a video somewhere. #2 Probably not because I have enough distractions I'll enjoy more right now. #3 For doing myself, downhill skiing. I'm not a great skier but we try to go to a small hill not too far from here once or twice a winter and every couple years spend a few days in the mountains. For watching hockey and pairs figure skating.
