Crowley
First Mini? Heroquest! I think I painted the mummies first... Best mini? I'm still really proud of my 2016 reaperon entry Why? Mostly because I enjoy it. I like being able to spend a couple hours and see something take shape!

February 17: What is your best miniature (pictures if possible)? February 18: Why do you paint? First miniatures were a Grenadier Wizzards & Warriors wererat, a goblin, and a kobold. The kid who introduced me to painting sold them to me for $5. I'm not sure which is my best miniature, although I suppose I could always default to Little Guindyloo Who, since I did create her completely from scratch. I paint because if I don't occupy my hands and mind with something, I get bored, and when I get bored I start playing with things, and then sometimes I end up breaking them or otherwise tend to get into trouble. The world is a safer place for humanity when I'm not bored. 7

Best miniature, or at least one I'm very pleased with is this bust of an Officer in the 71st, Highlanders during the Crimean War: Why do I paint? Because I like it, it relaxes me... NOT BECAUSE I HAVE TO, I CAN GIVE IT UP ANY TIME I WANT TO... who am I kidding? Days that I don't paint I do feel something is missing. 11
Dr.Bedlam
16. My first miniatures were the little green army men (in styrene) that came with the Revell military model kits when I was nine or so. The boxes had the Shepherd Paine dioramas on them, and I wanted MY stuff to look that good, which led me to learn more about WWII, seeking photos and suchlike; the whole idea of creating a whole little scene on a base took me away. Later, I discovered Dungeons and Dragons, and the disease became terminal; I just haven't died of it yet. 17. I have not yet painted my best miniature. 18. Because it's easier than NOT painting.

February 17: What is your best miniature (pictures if possible)? February 18: Why do you paint? Even though I know the pics were saved on the forum it took awhile to find them. I've uploaded a lot of photos the last year! Feb 16th: Grenadier minis from around 1985. Painted with Testors. Not sure what was my first painted but these were amongst my second ever mini purchase. The last 2 were repainted maybe 10 years later with Citadel paints. Feb 17th: This is a tougher one to answer. For the longest time the old GW Teclis mini was the one I had put the most work into. I've done a couple that are his equal now but took less time because I've improved a lot since then. If I can sneak in a second one I think this might be my favourite I've done lately even if he might not be the most difficult. Just like how he turned out overall. Feb 18th: Why do I paint? Because I'm crazy? Because I'm tired of looking at the unpainted hordes? Most of what I do is fast and dirty just to get it done without worrying about the little mistakes. But every so often I try to paint something better. It's my only artistic outlet and I enjoy being able to take a blank mini and turn it into something interesting with my own ideas and style. It gives me pleasure to create something and to share it with people.

Rob Dean
5 hours ago, TaleSpinner said: February 16: What was your first miniature (pictures if possible)? That’s a really complicated question. I was born in 1961, so my earliest figures were approximately 54mm toy soldiers from MPC, Marx, and so on. The oldest ones I can put my hands on are two survivors of a Marx Knights and Vikings Castle playset, received for Christmas around 1966. I have a picture (on a different device) of the Viking serving as a verdegrised statue in a Frostgrave game recently. My first wargaming sized figures were Airfix 1/72 scale plastics, bought before 1971 (in which year I discovered rules for the first time), but I have no idea which sets might have been bought when. My first painted figures were Airfix, done with enamels, so getting the paint to stay on was an exercise in frustration. Here is a recently painted Maid Marion from an Airfix Robin Hood set as an example, nowadays painted with a viable technique: My first metal figures were intended to supplement the Airfix figures, and were probably Hinton Hunt Napoleonics. They went in a sale with the vintage Airfix sometime in the late ‘80s. Somewhere around 1973 I first read The Lord of the Rings, so my first fantasy figures were Minifigs unlicensed Tolkien figures like this orc: These are what I’m now accumulating for a nostalgia project; a lot of about 70 of the various poses of these orcs (three! different ones) arrived yesterday, to round out most of my immediate wants for the project. Back in the day, I probably had no more than 100-150 figures from the range total, most of which have been lost to the mists of time. I was tallying things up yesterday and think that a couple of large lots I’ve come into have left me with about 500 now, including my ancient survivors.
Evilhalfling
February 15: Mini-Spawn was born just a few years ago. the cake was made (a week or two early) by her adoring grandmother. 5 hours ago, TaleSpinner said: February 16: What was your first miniature (pictures if possible)? February 17: What is your best miniature (pictures if possible)? in progress: February 18: Why do you paint? well I returned to this hobby with bones 1, intending to paint enough of them to use in RPG games I discovered I loved painting. I like getting small projects done with each one being a chance to grow and learn. its like mini-quests in a computer game, the whole thing is never finished but each piece brings you a reward of satisfaction for having accomplished it. When I am painting I can slip into 'flow' and time vanishes as my concentration, my world are focused on the tip of a brush. I guess it was kind of a painting starter kit. Feb. 17th: I used to think that my Kraken was the best but I recently painted Dagon and am extremely happy with him. Feb. 18th: I paint for fun. It helps me relax and I genuinely enjoy doing it. I also paint for games a lot. I'd like to do it for commission work but I'm not quite there yet. ETA: I also paint to help me grieve. I started shortly after my dad died in 2013. It has been very helpful and turned into something I love doing. First Miniature - I'm not too sure, it was a long time ago but it might have been a Games Workshop plastic skellington. Best Miniature - Again not too sure. My go to answer used to be my Mr. Toad, but I think I've painted some stuff that beats it now, I just don't know which one is the best. Why - Because it's fun and relaxing, and it's an arty hobby I can do despite my total lack of artistic talent.
