Do you or your family have any folk tales, remedies, prognostications you can share with us? 6 months after there's hoarfrost, there will be rain. I'm off the farm, there is a ton of folk remedies and things like that. In fact, in Saskatchewan we have the Pig Spleen Prognosticator. He's far more accurate than the weather reports. http://www.metronews.ca/news/saskatoon/2014/01/16/pig-spleen-prognosticator-of-the-prairies-carries-on-family-tradition.html 5 hours ago, TGP said: Yes. Sporadically. Two have already been mentioned. I have lost the bookmark (and forgotten the name) to a third, it involved a gelatinous cube and a mocking beast who were PCs... The comic is Rusty and Co..
haldir
Nothing that i can think of. Pretty sure if my grandmother on my mom's side of the family was still alive, she'd have something to tell. She was born in a small town in Northern Tennessee.

If you have a cold ...keep a half raw onion next to your bed at night. If the Wolf howls give him Bacon 1
Sanael
Webcomics: I read a ton, most of which have already been mentioned. The two I'll add to the list are: Q2Q: a look at the techies in a theater company. They once in a while talk to actors or audiences, but you never see anyone but the tech crew. Morty is one of the best Stage Managers ever. Sleepless Domain: I have never been a fan of the Magical Girl genre (Sailor Moon being the best known example). SD has changed my mind on that. The creator, Mary Cagle, has done an excellent job with page design, writing and facial expressions throughout. She also has two other comics: Kiwi Blitz (well done, but not to my taste) and Let's Speak English (a fond, often hilarious, travelogue of her time spent teaching English in Japan). Traditions, etc: Nothing interesting to report, here.

If so, which ones and why do you like them (please provide links if they are SFW and do not have commerce issues)? I haven't read any in quite some time (read: at least a year for the most recent, and several years for the rest), but I was a fan of: 8-Bit Theater - A cute parody of a lot of stuff from the Final Fantasy series. Exploitation Now (NSFW) - Also started out as a raunchy joke series, but it ended up growing to have a pretty nice storyline. I'd downloaded the whole series way back when, just in case the site went down, though I'm oddly happy to see that it's still around. The Last Days of FOXHOUND - Pretty cute parody of the villain cast of Metal Gear Solid, with some appearances from other characters in the series. Sexy Losers (NSFW) - I just found most of the storylines hilarious. Also one of the original popularizers of the "fap" onomatopoeia, so it has cultural value! Twisted Kaiju Theather (sometimes NSFW) - Honestly, I think the main draw of this one for me was just the merciless mocking of the 1998 Hollywood "Godzilla" movie. 8 hours ago, TaleSpinner said: February 2: Happy Groundhog's Day! Not sure if this is the sort of remedy you were expecting, but from what my father tells me, one remedy for a dog who just ate something poisonous is to immediately feed it some yogurt. I've never had cause to see if it's true, though

Different types for different things but just about everything can be dealt with with vinegar.

pcktlnt
Feb 2 question, I don't know if this is traditional, but if one unconsciously shakes their leg too often, it is a sign one has shallow pockets. I think this is culture base, if you sneeze for no reason, it means someone is talking about you. Another, if you leave utensils sticking up in food, you are inviting spirits to partake in your meal. Silly remedy? If you have the hiccups, place a bowl of ice on top of your head. Never tried.
Inarah
Feb 2: My family wasn't what I'd call superstitious, but I did learn a lot of farm/ folk lore. You can tell weather is coming if the tree leaves are upside down. There is actually some science in that, something to do with moisture or air pressure. If the sky is green, head for the storm cellar. A ring around the moon means rain is coming. Oh, if you can peel an apple all in one long strip and you toss the peel over your shoulder it will show the initials of the man you are to marry.
