Box of Goodwill round 6 picture/chatter thread

Recommended Posts

Whatever you want to put in is fine but for my purposes the rounder the sprue the better!  So the weapons sprue looks pretty great!  But I don't want to pressure anyone to put anything in they don't want to.

Some of those look pretty cool though I haven't done much assembly of models, mostly gluing in arms or heads.  I did build a Flamespyre Phoenix which was a lot of fun and I would like to do more building.

No joke; I didn't know the Cthulhutech miniatures had ever been produced.

I didn't either. I bought the lot on ebay and then posted some pics here asking if anyone knew what they were. The experts on the boards identified them as Cthulhu tech minis from a failed kickstarter?

NecroMancer. if your not interested in the actual minis, then I will just put a sprue or two of the reaper weapons. Looking forward to pawing through the box.

a resin dragon with a broken wing, on a motorcycle

Heh... I threw that dragon in there during the last round when the box came to Dilvish... I picked it up at the CT Ren Faire some years back and never got around to painting it myself. Glad to see it found a home - I knew that a dragon on a freakin motorcycle would ring somebody's bell sooner or later... ::D:

Is the wing repairable? If all the pieces are there it shouldn't be too hard to glue back together, although it might need pinning.

(Now, the important question - are ya gonna paint it?)

Well maybe the shield maiden but only if you can spare one.

It was a clean break so it should glue back nicely.  DH fell in love with it, so I imagine he will paint it at some point.  He has a lot going on and is a slow painter. :)

This time around I took quite a bit, but I made sure to absolutely jam pack fill the box back.  Thanks to everyone that contributed these treasures.

Spoiler

I can always use more undead.  I was going to buy brush cleaner on my next trip to the hobby store.  3 industrial grid bases which I think I'll use for St. Celestine and her Gemini, 4 weapon bits and a Space Marine helmet.  Baran Blacktree is a nice, simple player character mini that is just begging for a backstory.

Same with Ametrine; I can see my wife making a halfling rogue just for the mini.  Benedikt is the perfect blackguard, and I am completely blanking on the old school monster, but he'll make a good sorcerer.

Man-Bat gargoyle-to-be, two undead, and a weird goblin riding an eagle?  No clue, but I'll paint it up as a raven and go from there.

A selection of Bones critters and a CAV.

Void Praetorians.  Not sure what I'll use them for.  And my absolute favorite pick, an entire Malifaux crew of Unseelie fae.  They look completely menacing, and they also look like the stupidly small fiddly bits will have me cursing in no time.

@hjorhrafn

If you've never have assembled those D&D Chainmail minis. You're in for an adventure. They are nice but they were a major PiTA for me at least. Very tiny pieces to attach metal bits to. I ended up just tossing them into a melt bag bound for the melt table @ ReaperCon one year.

Great haul!  I really like those Malifaux figures. Nice score there!

Have you used the Pink Soap before?  I got some of the W&N brush cleaner and would like to compare the two.

You'll take my life, but I'll take yours too
You'll fire your musket, but I'll run you through
So when you're waiting for the next attack
You'd better stand, there's no turning back

I'm going to be building/converting/sculpting my own copy of Eddie from this artwork. I'm just going to do the central figure, not the battlefield around him.

For those who don't know, the song 'The Trooper' is based on the Charge of the Light Brigade, an action during the Battle of Balaclava during the Crimean War.

So, before I get started, a question:

The artist who did this piece (Derek Riggs) applied a little creative license to the flag that Eddie is carrying. It is not historically accurate to the best of my knowledge and research. If you know differently, please enlighten me.

When I get to that point, do I try to recreate the flag as seen in the artwork, or go with something a little more accurate? Or is that a detail that most people will not notice?

Here's 2 beetle swarms that I knocked out pretty quick this weekend.

One basic brown, and the other with a more metallic look to them.

Let me know what you think.

I finished Mason Thornwarden a little earlier today. He's painted up to a (hopefully) decent tabletop standard. I've been reading a lot about Rangers of Shadowdeep on various blogs all over the internet; I can neither confirm nor deny that is what may have led to his selection for the paintbrush.

Let me know what you think of him, please.

I just finished painting this figure yesterday. It's from the old Grenadier boxed set 'Fighting Men' #2005. Not really a whole lot to say about him, I spent about 3 hours painting him to a good tabletop level. I got a little burned out on painting for a while, feeling like I had to paint everything to a competition level. Well, sometimes it's just fun to slap some paint on a figure in a few hours just to take your mind off of other things. I had just forgotten that somewhere along the way.

Anyhow, here he is, let me know what you think.

I finally managed to climb back on the painting horse. I painted this vampire to my usual tabletop standard. He'll be the leader for a Mordheim/Frostgrave/random skirmish game warband.
