The Guindyloo Box is on its way to Green Eyed Monster.

I would like to drop in a word of praise for MadJack who bagged, identified, and labeled everything. Wow!

Pictures to follow soon ...

Sorry for the long delay in pictures.  Been travelling a lot lately and trying to integrate new job duties.  I didn't grab a huge amount but loved what I got

Someone was kind enough to add a dragon I'd given as a gift many year ago which is lovely because we've gone different ways. Some space marines whom will either become part of my grey knights or prisoners of my eldar.

The Mon Calimoarian is destined to become "Guppi" from a book series I came across and adored.

Thanks to everyone, this is always great fun!  And special thanks to this selfless people who keep putting this together

Ohhh, lovely!

This is the Guindyloo Box group paint. It came plain, so I primed it with Reaper Brown Liner and then painted the duster in mixed shades of Phthalocyanine Blue, Burnt Umber, and Titanium White. I hope it is okay. I felt exceedingly nervous while painting it.

Here is what I took. Many MANY thanks to MadJack for identifying and labeling everything!

Spoiler

There was a big ziplock bag full of these grey plastic guys from CMON Massive Darkness. There are lots more. I picked out some for dungeon mooks.

DSC_0818.jpg.12c8073fd405e69929a5e1adae246923.jpg

I especially liked these guys. I plan to paint them up like Rien Poortvliet "Gnomes." ::D:

There are some more of these green plastic aliens in the box. It looks like they have little helmets to glue on.

DSC_0819.jpg.fbe35ab46bdbfa1d375eca3104fddcd2.jpg

These were labeled as "Unknown Historicals", one lead one from Ral Partha and two unknown. I believe they are all ancient Persians.

These Harvesters from Dark Age look interesting, although those little arms look like they might be a nuisance to glue / pin. Female is face down because of nudity.

Two old vintage lead Shadowrun groups from Grenadier. Left: Grenadier Shadowrun 1319 Ancients Gang. Right: Grenadier Shadowrun 1318 Leather Devils Gang.

These are two vintage lead "Phagon Battle Clones with Laser Rifles" from Hobby Products Metal Magic Spacelord -- it looks like the sku might be C3224. On the right is an old Games Workshop ludicrous battle mummy.

And a few modern figures: Two plastic  Nolzur's Female Halfling Rogues; Reaper's 14509, Varashia, Vale Archer Sergeant; and Reaper's 03004, Dorva, Dark Elf.

Yeah!  One of my few things added was picked out right away! :)  Was not sure if anyone would be interested in that but figured I would drop it in.  I ran across some of the nice wooden mini holders I wanted to add but did not even look for them since there was barely enough room for more minis.

Rien Poortvliet is Dutch.

In 1976 I got a book for Christmas from my parents.

It was Rien Poortvliet "Vossen hebben Holen" ( Foxes have dens) and my father had drawn a little christmas decoration on the first blank page.

I still have it.

Oooh, good stuff in Massive Darkness!

I'm convinced the "Dwarves" were originally supposed to be Redcaps or Gnomes from their design being so different than previous Dwarves in their line (or the playable ones in the same box)

I wonder if those Mars Attack guys are the ones I placed in the last round of the Goodwill box. I can't recall who's group I was in last time. If they are I'm glad they found a home. I originally picked a box up just for the helmet bubble. I needed to make a conversion, but the bubble was too small.

Like David and the Gnomes?  Did anyone ever watch that show?

Edit:  After a Google search I found out the name of the show was actually "The World of David the Gnome".  (Sorry it was like 30+ years ago and was on for like 1 season)

In other news, the box the @Smokestack sent to me is "Out for Delivery" according to the tracking which is 1 day earlier than I expected.  Also the grass tufts that I ordered from Shadow's Edge Miniatures is also "Out for Delivery"!

Work cannot go by fast enough!

Yes, it was still big when I was a yoot and my name was also David, so I heard endlessly about it and got gifts themed around it before TMNT became life.

I even had a Gnome Barbarian named "The Weaselbreaker" after those being the only unfriendly animals in the forest toward them.  I remember the original book inspired a lot of other fictional field guides...I kept trying to get a copy of the Giants one but every Amazon shipper has sent one that looks like it was recovered from a crate at the bottom of the sea.

I remembr there were a lot of copycat field guide type books after “Gnomes”’s success. The “Fairies” one by Brian Froud is the only one I can recall that really took off.

Oooh, thanks!  I thought they looked Persian.

@Glitterwolf, sound the hunting horn and recall the pack. Let beleaguered mailmen around the world rejoice!

The one true box grows nearer!

(Cue deep and distant drumming, punctuated by the howls of distant and glittery wolves)

One box to rule them all, one box to find them,One box to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.

You'll take my life, but I'll take yours too
You'll fire your musket, but I'll run you through
So when you're waiting for the next attack
You'd better stand, there's no turning back

I'm going to be building/converting/sculpting my own copy of Eddie from this artwork. I'm just going to do the central figure, not the battlefield around him.

For those who don't know, the song 'The Trooper' is based on the Charge of the Light Brigade, an action during the Battle of Balaclava during the Crimean War.

So, before I get started, a question:

The artist who did this piece (Derek Riggs) applied a little creative license to the flag that Eddie is carrying. It is not historically accurate to the best of my knowledge and research. If you know differently, please enlighten me.

When I get to that point, do I try to recreate the flag as seen in the artwork, or go with something a little more accurate? Or is that a detail that most people will not notice?

Here's 2 beetle swarms that I knocked out pretty quick this weekend.

One basic brown, and the other with a more metallic look to them.

Let me know what you think.

I finished Mason Thornwarden a little earlier today. He's painted up to a (hopefully) decent tabletop standard. I've been reading a lot about Rangers of Shadowdeep on various blogs all over the internet; I can neither confirm nor deny that is what may have led to his selection for the paintbrush.

Let me know what you think of him, please.

I just finished painting this figure yesterday. It's from the old Grenadier boxed set 'Fighting Men' #2005. Not really a whole lot to say about him, I spent about 3 hours painting him to a good tabletop level. I got a little burned out on painting for a while, feeling like I had to paint everything to a competition level. Well, sometimes it's just fun to slap some paint on a figure in a few hours just to take your mind off of other things. I had just forgotten that somewhere along the way.

Anyhow, here he is, let me know what you think.

I finally managed to climb back on the painting horse. I painted this vampire to my usual tabletop standard. He'll be the leader for a Mordheim/Frostgrave/random skirmish game warband.
