Dragon Lords: Grenadier miniatures

Recommended Posts

Well I've a couple questions.

Did Mirlton ever settle the dispute with Sandra Garrity over their unauthorized production and sale of miniatures of her sculpts?

Has it ever been clarified which Grenadier minis Mirlton owns the rights to and which ones they don't?

I don’t know about anybody else, but without an answer either way to these questions this is by default a “pass” for me.

For those unfamiliar with the issue.

- Here's a link to the thread discussing the issue on the Reaper forum:

I love old Grenadier.

However this is a bit...I don't know.

Already some people on Ebay ask ridicilous prices for Old Grenadier minis.

I'm a little afraid "mint boxes" are going to show up at huge prices while these in fact will be recasts..

I do own a few Mirliton minis, in the mentioned thread there is a list of the stuff that they are infringing copyright on.

There are other minis they are allowed to sell though.

In the end. I prefer the real stuff call me crazy, but I love searching and collecting the real stuff.

I have a fair bit of nostalgia for these sculpts, but the shipping knocks these out of the range I'm willing to spend for them, since the only cost they show for the USA is 35 euros.

If you channel your inner Archimedes, it is conceivably possible to determine if the mini is vintage leaded pewter or (as these apparently are) white metal.

This would of course require having possession of the miniature first....

Are any of the ones being offered here Garrity sculpts? I haven’t looked. If there are, that could cause...issues...if she decided to make a fuss directly to KS.

Didn’t see any sculptor names in the project description, but that seems to be an issue all around with Mirilton.

If the above turned out to not be a dealbreaker, this probably would do it anyway.

I have not tried to track down the original sculptors yest, but the sets that they intend to produce with the campaign are:

2001 Wizards : Masters of sorcery

2002 Halfling Party

2003 Dwarves Troop

5001 Dungeon Explorers

5002 Monsters

I would tend toward wanting the originals myself, and not necessarily excited about these being recasts.

Even if the ownership rights of the minis in this kickstarter are not in question, I'm still not going to support a company that doesn't respect a sculptors and/or another companies rights of ownership.

Until I hear that dispute has been settled, I won't be ordering anything from Mirlton.

And I'm hoping it will be, as I really want the Goblin War Giant eventually.

Wow, I actually have quite a few of these mini's, both painted and unpainted:) Was going to post some of the painted ones, now I know which ones are which::D:

On a side note, wish Reaper and Sandra could get the rights and release them themselves.

Just to clarify. I don't believe that any of the minis actually in the kickstarter are actually Garrity sculpts, although I could be wrong.

I looked at at the list from the other thread, and it doesn't look like it.  Unless the renamed and reused some sculpts.

      BACKERS 1,371 Quick Facts
Cosmo Communicator is a pocketable clamshell smartphone with a physical backlit keyboard Device features dual colour touchscreen displays and a 24MP camera External 2" touchscreen when device is closed and large 6" touchscreen when device is open - ample space to create on the move.
Cosmo runs Android 9 (Pie) and also supports Linux OS, such as Sailfish OS and Debian, with a multi-boot option
Built to be the only device you need to carry, and small enough to fit in your pocket, it’s a true all-in-one replacement for both your mobile phone and your laptop.

      The Planet Story continues...
At Planet Computers innovation is at the heart of our company.  Earlier this year,  we successfully delivered our Gemini PDA product to more than 7000 Indiegogo backers who supported our mission to kick start a new mobile computing revolution.
Now, we are ready to push our vision even further and you can be part of it.
In the process of developing our new device we asked our Indiegogo backers, users and followers what features they wanted to have.
We are excited to announce that we are extending the range of Planet devices with the Cosmo Communicator, our new flagship device.
The Cosmo Communicator is a modern dual-screen clamshell-based mobile communicator with an integrated keyboard. It is built to be a great pocket computer, a superb mobile phone and an excellent high resolution camera.

The Cosmo features dual colour displays: it features an external colour touchscreen display for easy phone call control and notifications.  Tucked away inside the beautiful and sleek award winning clamshell design is an ultra-wide 6” colour touchscreen display providing ample space to create on the move with a fully functioning  keyboard integrated into the device. When open, the innovative clamshell also acts as a support of the device, allowing you to type comfortably.

Cosmo’s newly designed backlit keyboard, allows you to comfortably work at night or in dark spaces such as on long plane journeys without the need of external lighting.

Disclaimer; I own the Gemini, their previous communicator.
Yes, the keyboard works and you can write on it at a decent speed.
Unfortunately, on the Gemini, Libreoffice on Debian really lags... like my painting...
      (Yeah, struggling to catch up.)
They're promising a faster CPU with more cores on the Cosmo, but so far I don't know how much faster.
MUltiboot OS is possible (I have Debian as default, Android as second and Sailfish as the third on my Gemini), but currently it requires a fiddly process where you download OS images, erase the internal storage on the device, then use a PC SW package to flash it with the images. And multibooted devices don't support the usual Android update system.
(I expect the process will be improved later)

I'm currently undecided and have about a week left to decide...

This is a small campaign that features a set of Michael Anderson Models. Only one honest pledge level, that's it.

Tre manor is at it again...
      Another well-designed warband.

Unfortunately, one of the minis is a bit... not-PG. So no pictures.
