Grublicks idly scratched his butt. He was still in his room/cell, waiting for the crew of the trader vessel to decide whether to take him on as their newest crew member or not. He really didn't understand the hold up; hadn't he surrendered to them, and happily sold out the raiders that he had been with? Back home, that would've made him a junior officer at the very least. It was always hard to figure some of the other races different customs, though.

Thinking back, it hadn't been a very hard choice; the raiders had underestimated the strength of the vessel they attacked, and got wrecked good and proppa for it. He was pretty sure the raiders had been cheating him anyway; he always seemed to get the worst of the work details, like cleaning the kitchen. On the other hand, he'd miss some of them.  He was always able to convince Nentarc to trade work details; Grublicks was convinced that the man had been soft between the ears to so easily agree to cleaning the kitchens instead of working down in the deep sumps. If Grublicks was careful and maybe a little bit lucky, he could always find a couple of sump eels to snack on.

He wondered if there were any sump eels on board this ship as he scratched his butt again.

I've been on a little bit of a sci-fi kick recently, and decided that all of these one off figures I've acquired over the years might make a pretty interesting starship crew, so I've been trying to tie them together with little bits of story.

Whether they'll ever see use in a game is anyone's guess, although I certainly hope so.

Thanks for looking.

I really like the way you based it. What did you use for the grating?

I'm almost thinking plastic canvas, possibly 7 per inch canvas...  I'm rather curious as well!

WhiteWulfe is  exactly correct, I bought it at Michael's for a dollar or so. It takes paint pretty well, is easy to cut to shape with scissors/trim with a hobby knife, and looks pretty good as a quick and easy sci-fi base.

These are the plastic Wyrd 20620 Wild Boars (Ulix).  I picked them for a quick tabletop paint job.  Unlike many of the Wyrd plastic minis these where easy to glue together.
May they eat many adventurers, but no more druids...
One of my early characters, a level one druid, was killed by a wild boar in the very first playing session after she failed her animal handling roll.  In the decades since, any time I see see a nasty pig figure I say that is the one that killed my druid.  So one of these nasty critters is surely the one!

Labella DeMornay, Banshee from the first Bones kickstarter, This is a green translucent, and like all translucents I undercoated it first with Army Painter Anti Shine Matt Varnish, so the following washes would have something to adhere to. This is key to painting translucents. Also, make sure to use transparent paints, like inks and quickshade washes. Opaque paints will invariably ruin the translucent effect. The green tinge of the plastic will affect any transparent colours that are used, and so this must be taken into consideration. For her brown hair, I used Citadel Carroburg Crimson shade (a dark red). The skin is Citadel Casandora Yellow Shade, the dress is old Citadel Blue glaze (red flip-cap hex pot) and ditto Turquoise glaze. Taking care to draw off any pooling and to avoid unsightly tide marks by smoothing with a damp brush while wet. The aim is to tint the translucent plastic, not sp much paint over it, or even "shade" it. Not sure how pleased I am with the results here. I think the results could have been much better if the plastic was clear not green tinged.

Citadel has just released (to pre-order - they're coming out next week) a new line of Contrast paints which behave rather differently than conventional minis paints in a number of respects.

I recently got a chance to play around with them at my local Warhammer store, and wrote down some initial impressions.

Has anyone else gotten a chance to mess around with these, and if so, what was your thoughts on them?
      (my favorite result down below)

This minis was a kickstarter exclusive from the Mantic Kings of War second edition campaign in 2014.
"Blaine" is a Mantic mascot of sorts. and there has been a version of him in all their own IP kickstarters apart from the vey first Kings of War. So here is him as the Fantasy Tyrant King.

A resin special mini, there were some problems with delivery and I heard several backers never got their Blaine for some reason or other.
I have not really had any delivery problems to speak of from any of the many Mantic kickstarters I have backed, and I obviosly got my Blaine with my shipment at the time.

I used a bespoke 3D printed 25x50mm oval base, In retrospect I probably should have gone with a slightly larger base as it does seem a little small.

This picture illustrates the smaller Mantic truscale as opposed to the larger Reaper heroic scale.
