Moderator Popular Post OneBoot Posted April 4, 2018 Author Moderator Popular Post Share Posted April 4, 2018 Dragon's all linered! He will be a brown dragon, so the shading step is already done! The wings are a bit of an experiment; I'm going to be splotching various browns on over what I've already done, so I'm hoping all those super obvious brush strokes will turn into texture. They probably won't, but one can hope. Also, I've already had my first casualty. I knew this Brown Liner bottle was on its last legs, and after it started doing nothing but spit bubbles at me, I figured it was time to let it go. RIP Brown Liner Bottle #2. I'm a bit concerned about the new bottle, though; while the liner from the old bottle had a soft, almost satiny feel when dry, this new bottle feels and looks a tad glossy. Perhaps I didn't shake it up well enough. I'm hoping it will be okay, but if not, I've got another bottle I can try. Meanwhile, Trevor the Brush is being all kinds of grumbling about me dragging him out of retirement, the pain in his ferrule, and how young brushes these days just don't know how to sling paint properly. Gonna take a little break, then it's on to the terrain! Huzzah! --OneBoot :D 26

Moderator Popular Post OneBoot Posted April 4, 2018 Author Moderator Popular Post Share Posted April 4, 2018 (edited) Finally done with the terrain! It took me about 1.75 hours to liner it. The party (typing adventurers is getting tiresome, so they will now be referred to as "the party") took about an hour, and the dragon took about 1.5 hours, perhaps a bit less. Some thoughts about the terrain: -It may not be the most complicated, but I predict it will prove to be the most grueling, just because there's SO MUCH OF IT. I'd still rather paint all of this than Kaladrax's vertebrae again, though. -I don't know if it will show up, but Julie Guthrie signed the dragon's base! -There is not just the one treasure pile, which I made sure to paint with Brown Liner so I'd notice it... There's actually TWO. It's obvious I didn't even notice the second one, since I just happily covered it in the Red Liner along with all the rest of the stones. I'm starting to have flashbacks to the skulls on Kaladrax's base (there's always one more!) -I think I'm going to have to attach the very top part of the round base to the middle part; there's such a big gap that it will make attaching it once it's all painted really annoying: Luckily it's pretty soft, so I can easily squish it into place. So, here's where I'm at, 8 hours in: That's not nearly as far along as I'd like to be at this point, but I can't in good conscience totally neglect MrBoot. Next I think I'll at least get the skin basecoats down on the party and call that good for the night. Moderator Popular Post OneBoot Posted April 4, 2018 Author Moderator Popular Post Share Posted April 4, 2018 (edited) So I didn't dive into painting skin right away, because reasons. Mostly because I got distracted by the chance to use my amazing Bondic gap-filling awesome stuff! @Guindyloo introduced me to it at ReaperCon, and as soon as I got home I ordered some for myself. Because seriously. This stuff is the bestest. EDIT: Oh yeah, I forgot I also filled the few small gaps on Dragon, but am too lazy to take a picture. Just use your imagination for now. Before Bondic: After Bondic! It looks wet because the stuff is super shiny; I'll be slapping some liner on over it when I get around to it. Totally not product placement: *ahem* And then, I was about start trying to paint skin for the umpteenth time, when I discovered that Past Me was a jerk and didn't clean off my palettes, so I had no clean ones to work off of. Luckily, Past Me was also lazy enough to dump them into a tub of water and leave them several hours ago, so I was able to scrub them off easily enough. I really only needed a few, but, well...they're all clean now anyways. And for some reason, I decided to take a picture of my paint racks? Well okay. Um, have a picture of my paint racks, I guess. So now, I can finally start the skin basecoats, yes? Good? Yes. ...I think I'm a bit tired lol. I started with Brave Father Robin, but quickly discovered that the top half of his hammer is all up in his grill, so I removed it for the time being. For the record, I'll be using the Rosy Skin triad. Here I discovered that my decision to prime the skin areas with Sepia liner actually did end up working in my favor! You can see a difference between his face and his forehead (which I'd accidentally covered with Red liner). His forehead will need a few more coats to look decent, plus the color is both paler and more pink. I like how the Sepia liner under the Rosy Shadow gives it a nice slightly tan look (it looks way more yellow in the picture than it does in real life). After 2-3 coats of Rosy Shadow, here's the party! They no longer look like the "Bad Spray-on Tan Brigade." Yay for awful washed out pictures! Right-o, I think I'd better get myself off to bed before I stop making whatever little sense I normally do. Work to resume approximately 8am PDT! Assuming I remember to set my alarm. Aye, it can get confusing for us Yanks as we have about 6 time zones. (Not sure if Alaska and Hawaii are in the same time zone or not). They're half an hour ahead of the mainland :p Yup, I initially had it as 6 or 7 because I think the easternmost part of Maine is technically in the next time zone but not sure if they acknowledge that or just pretend to be in Eastern. Wasn't sure about Canada. We Americans are not taught about Canadian time zones because we are too busy trying to reinvent math.
