77109 Fire dragon, red and gold

Finished the fire dragon, painted using a red and gold theme. Used lots of metallic paints mixed in with matte paint, especially on its torso. Hope I got the right effect. Tell me what you guys think, would appreciate it.

P.S.: I'm a bad photographer so don't mind the shadows and the bad lighting in the pics... If need be i'll take another batch of photos.

@DankDungeonMaster You did an excellent work.

 

I suggest adding some highlights on the lower edge of the torso plates. It will help creating more contrast an enhance the 3D effect. You just need to tone your base color with some white and apply it on the edge of the scales. I the same way, you can blend some yellow with you red color and add some highlights on the dragon body scales. Start with the scales that are on top of the sholders and other muscles.

 

Add just a little yellow to the red paint and try it on the scale until you get the tone you like. It's better to use the side of you brush to touch just the upper part of the protrusion. It's better to use yellow on red because white will turn your red to punkish color.

Sadly, I've already varnished the whole thing by the time I took the photos. Thanks for the tips, though! I'll keep them in mind for future minis. I've been on a paint hiatus 'cause I'm so busy IRL. Got some more dragons on queue so your tips will definitely help. Can't wait to get some more work done in more minis...

Awesome job!! I painted one of these as practice working in reds before doing the ancient red (Reaper Cinder), so this will definitely pay off. The scales aren’t really scales too (more like bumps), so it makes it a bit more difficult to glaze, but you did a great job. Slap some transitions shades as mentioned above and you’ll be rocking out my friend!
