I have an orchid that won't flower, hasn't for a year and a half now. Instead it's trying to crawl away. It's growing a half dozen new air roots and is reaching out of the pot toward other things. And huge new leaves, it's putting out huge shiny new leaves that are trying to reach out the window. Eh, it's a plant. I'm sure it has its own planty ideas. If it's anything like other plants, especially vegetables, lots of vegetative growth but no flowering is a sign of an issue with lighting conditions. 4
SparrowMarie
Not feeling well, I found this on Instagram the other day and it seems appropriate for my mood today. ETA: This posted before I was done, oops. Anyway. Lots to do today and my stomach and brain are protesting so I'm following people on IG to try to get my work shared with more people (not sure that's the wording I want but I'm going with it.) Currently, watching Sibling draw me a thank you note for when I hit 800 followers which will be not that long from now, I think. To do today: Groceries (Husband left to do this since I don't feel well, so this is in progress.) Clear out the corner where the A/C is going. Find place to put stuff that is currently in said corner. Laundry Clear off the stove and possibly scrub it (depends on how much energy I get going and when.) Clean out the freezer (this might already be done, Husband cleared out the fridge but don't know if he got to the freezer.) Get all the donate stuff to the car Swap out lamps in the living room Annnnd...I think that about covers the living room. I've got a bunch of cleaning to do in the bedroom but don't know how much or if I'll get to on that front today. I should also be getting my desk...table? sometime today (Not really sure what else to call it. A riser maybe?). Anyway, it is going on the painting desk so I have something to organize a little better and a place for my laptop when I paint there. It should be super handy. I know Megan has never had much luck trying to do it from the Fire, but until today I hadn't had much trouble from the laptop. The Auld Grump - images too - but that cleared up when I wiped the cookies. Thirty. Definitely thirty. While Grump was doing stuff, I was dozing under a tree. Too hot to move. Goat kabob is amazingly good. Don't tell Grump, but I like it even better than his curry.

We're a few scant sessions away from the end of Serpent's Skull and everyone keeps not showing up. There's real reasons involved (apparently the East Coast has a wedding season?) and they're warning me days/weeks in advance but... And it gives me time to stop putting off painting all these dudes and get them done, including the Great God [redacted], but... I should stop complaining shouldn't I... And one version wandering around without its head. That's how T. A. Grump & Co. left the poor thing.

SparrowMarie
Sibling started installing our AC with minimal help from me. I'm handing them tools (that we have or looking for ones that we don't) as needed. Package came, need to crack it open and assemble it but I'm kind of waiting for the AC to be hooked up first in case I need assistance.

Happy Canada Day back at you! We decided to stay close to home this year and it was just as well. Cool windy and the occasional rain shower. Hoping it will be ok for the fireworks later.

Orchids are supposed to be low-moderate light plants. That's how I had it previously for a lot of months. It... did not do much. Didn't do badly, looked fine, just didn't do anything. So over the winter I moved it to a south facing window with some afternoon sun, the "sunniest" place in my night-shift/day-sleeping studio apartment. It's leaves are still nice and dark (not suffering from too much light) and it's growing all the hell over (not under-fertilized). I water it with the leftovers of whatever glass I've been drinking out of (backwash instead of fertilizer is how my dad's orchids all look amazing). As an orchid it looks great. New leaves are all dark and shiny and big. Air roots are growing quickly as it decides to claim ownership of the window, trying to crawl out the window as far as I can tell. Just... No flowers for a year and a half. I know they only flower once a year (for three to five months at a time), maybe our utter lack of spring did it. I'll know next year. Unless it tries to eat me first 5
Lord of the Dish Pit
Apparently there have been quite a few sightings of large black cats, panther sized large, in Texas. Possible explainations: Agents of Meow Someone in Austin took my idea about modifying a house cat genetically to stand 16 hands high at the withers and ran with it. Haven't gotten there yet and the early specimens are now roaming free. The Cats of Ulthar are sending scouts for an as yet unknown purpose.(maybe securing a supply area for when they go after the Skaven of Sweden?) Someone planted enough catnip that the scent has reached into other dimensions and has sparked an invasion. Someone is attempting to lure Alf into the area.

I made the mistake of going to West Edmonton Mall. Wow, those were some insane crowds, at least until we got down towards where Sears used to be and then suddenly there were a lot less people, which was really nice!

Unless it tries to eat me first Could be worse - the city where I used to live bought a bunch of Ginkgo trees, cheap. They were cheap because they were mostly the female version of the tree. (Ginkgo trees have genders.) The female Ginkgo trees are the ones that bear fruit - every year. The fruit of the Ginkgo tree smells like, well, fresh vomit. And the city had planted hundreds. Then they learned that cutting down the Ginkgo tree is not enough - as they sprouted anew from the stumps.... The Auld Grump 3
Unruly
Well, I was going to call the power company tomorrow to ask if they would pull vines off of the power connection to my house, because they're grown up all over the wire, but now I don't have to. They're replacing fuses along the power lines tonight, so my power flashed off and when I looked outside to see if it was localized I saw the power company trucks 3 houses up the street. So I went and asked those guys. They said that if I've already cut the section of the vine out between the ground and the wires, then it's the same thing as what they would have done if they got sent out. They said now it's just a matter of the vines dying and falling off on their own over the next couple years. So go me, I guess.
TheAuldGrump
Learn something new every day.... Reading the webcomic Freefall led to learning about the Hero Shrew.... By J.A. Allen, Herbet Lang, James Paul Chapin - "The skeletal characters of Scutisorex somereni" Bulletin of the American Museum of Natural History 28 ([1]), Public Domain, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=27473323 That spine can survive the weight of a 159 pound man, but it can reverse itself in a tunnel only slightly wider than the shrew itself.... That spine is amazing. I... think that is how I am going to picture dragon skeletons from now on.... The Auld Grump 9 1
