Ever get a feeling before the game that the party - including you - is missing something? That there is a big fat CLUE! that you failed to notice?

Yeah... that's the feeling I have....

The Auld Grump

All the time. Also, missing treasure.

GOOD: the concept of TV programming on demand, making it possible to binge watch television at a time of my choosing.
BAD: putting five %#$^ minutes of unskippable commercials at the front end of the programming. I could stand commercials placed throughout the show; that's what TV DOES. But being told right up front that "we're going to waste a good four or five minutes of your time before even letting you see the opening credits?

It's the sort of thing that makes me wonder if I really wanted to see that particular show today.

I am technologically backwards. It seems to me the only one who wastes your time is you. Does the fast forward button fail to function? They used to be labeled “FF”?

Sylverthorne already beat me to mentioning the mute button.

But if you have a guaranteed five minutes before the show begins, that sounds like a five minute expedition to gather and organize snacks from the kitchen, to me.

A five minute intermission between shows while binge watching sounds like a usefully long bathroom break...

Unfortunately with "TV on demand" websites, that function is disabled. There's no way to skip past the ads. I always use Sylverthorne's method of turning off the sound and/or wandering away until they're done. The site may force me to see them, but it can't force me to hear or watch them! ::P:

Awake waaaaay too early for my flight. Currently at the diner for breakfast. Didn’t sleep well either. Woke up really hot and had to check the AC. Was just me. Then got five messages from the daughter waking me up ten minutes before the alarm was to sound.

Still excited to to be going tho. And hope that my typing improves. The last week has been very trying as my fingers haven’t been hitting right where they should be.

The light of understanding dawns...someone else mentioned DVDs right after that, but this is an entirely different beast.

Thankfully Netflix doesn't do that with their streaming service. It's why I quit Hulu. Couldn't stand the ads. And I use ad block on everything on my computer. Which sometimes means I can't look at some web sites, but overall I'm okay with that.

COFFEE!!

I've been dreading this for a while now...

I just got finished bouncing numbers around, and It doesn't look like I'm going to be able to go to Reapercon this this year. It turns out that losing my job actually hurt me financially more than I thought it was going to. In addition to taking a pay cut, I also lost several non salary related chunks of income. I was a field service engineer ( which means that I drove all over creation to fix stuff at various locations ), as such I received a vehicle allowance (for gas, insurance, vehicle maintenance, etc) as well as reimbursement for all mileage driven for business purposes. I failed to take that into account when I was doing my calculations.

As things stand, I will make approximately enough to cover my bills, but there isn't going to be much left besides.

Once our current lease is up (end of the year), we'll be moving somewhere cheaper, as we won't need as much space with one kid out on his own and the other making plans to go soon. Looking for a new job isn't entirely out of the question, but it's a last resort. I'm incredibly happy where I am, and I actually ENJOY what I do and going to work every day.  That counts for a lot, IMO. ( I also do really make a fairly decent wage, too) We've also taken a look at our expenses and made some cuts to things that weren't really necessary. Things wil work out eventually, it's just going to take a bit of time.

So, failing an unexpected windfall (I don't play the lottery, and my remaining relatives are in generally good health and I'd rather have them in my life anyway), I don't think I'll be able to make it. Hopefully next year I'll be able to go again.

Sorry to be a bummer, I hope you all have a good weekend.

Life happens. Glad to hear you like your current employment and have a plan to keep things stable even if R'con isn't in the plan for this year.

So much this.  I'm missing Rcon too, and the men of the house are going to be at PAX.  Might be a good time for me to try out the hangouts for the first time.
