Hopefully not. Germany had enough sun this year.

I'm in for some more rain. @SisterMaryNapalm- will you join me? "Yes, of course!" - That makes two. Wonderful.

A few hours ago, one of my Infinity miniatures fell apart. Her gun broke, and when I tried to repair it, she fell off the base and the base scattered all over my table. -_- What a mess. I sometimes hate lead figures. Need to find a way to a) either fix the broken rifle or b) construct a new one. I am currently thinking about making her such a weapon:

Maybe not that big, but definitively that style. Need to see if I have got an Anti-Tank rifle from my 28mm Russians left ... And after that I have to take care of everything else ... *sigh*

That looks like an awesome weapon.

As for the broken weapon, a tiny piece of Greenstuff and then superglue will fix most things.

I should be at ReaperCon... Instead I'm at work. Nothing fun planned for the long weekend, just the usual chores and lots of homework.

Maybe if I can get everything done I'll be able to squeeze in some painting time.

Has anyone tried to order a ReaperCon Sophie yet?  I tried but it won't go into my cart. (Already have some other items I need in my cart) Maybe I'm just impatient. And not having a good day.

Nope. Already tried.

The breaking point of the gun is an unbelievably small piece of barell, that you cannot fix with greenstuff, because all the greenstuff will cover details, while glue won't allow it hold on its own.

Check "Infinity Atalanta" and just imagine that the barrell has broken off directly behind the flash damper. That is an awesome place to break off.

Sorry no.

Ouch!

Hope you can find a suitable replacement.

Nope. Haven't tried yet. My connection doesn't allow me to order something without having to worry about buying 50 at the same moment.

Maybe take a short break and then try again?

Yeah. Me too. Because now that I finished her companion, she breaks apart. What kind of ridiculous coincidence!

Hm?

Something wrong with the material the company used?

Or just very fragile sculpts?

I hate it when a nice mini breaks on me.

Ever had a corvus belli miniature in your hands? They are awesomely fragile, because very detailed. And in connection with my clumsy fingers, that's an unfortunate combination.

Ah, no I haven't actually.

I did have some bad experience with some resin minis in the past.

Yeah, well. That's a different talk. Corvus Belli is all lead miniatures. But resin - boy. I think the first really great miniature made from resin was from Russian manufacturer Kluvka. All the other stuff, starting with Elysian drop troopers up to the nuns that are in my speed-build thread - all that stuff was a complete disappointment.

Ilyad Games made some good resin minis.

I still have a few.

And although I own a lot of Reaper Bones I'm still mostly fond of the metal ones.

Busts are a different area of course.

I'm also a nostalgic...

I have a weak spot for the old lead minis from Grenadier and early Ral Partha and the Mithril series.

Yeah. I know what you mean. For me that is plastic. I've been into all that plastic stuff since I was a small lad. Guess that's when you start with ships and tanks and airplanes. Plastic always has an acceptably quality and level of detail - especially in the 28mm and higher scales. The small ones are often problematic. I mean, 1/72 - there are a lot of sets. Countless sets, but I only know three miniature companies doing a great level of detail. And unfortunately, Revell of Germany has lost its quality in the last couple of years.

But regarding lead: I think CB is still one of the best companies you get. Along with Bombshell and Reaper.

What I mostly hated about resin was the absolutely insane amount of abhesive you had to get rid of. And even then, the miniatures (even when cleaned and brushed and having dried for some time) still started to sweat from time to time. Quite unfortunate.

I had almost all the 1:72 Airfix armies when I was young.

Later I added lots of Atlantic and Matchbox to that collection.

From Airfix I had the 1:32 WWII range as well.

Painting these plastics was a bit difficult.

Paint tended to crack off because of the soft plastic and I only had Humbrol and Revell oil paints at the time.

Things could have been so different if Reaper Brown Liner had been around at that time.

They were great to play with and collect, but for painting and display they lacked detail.

But since I enjoyed them so much in my youth I still like them.

I also built a lot of model kits in those days.

Loved the Matchbox tanks and airplanes, especially the little diorama like bases that came with the tank kits were awesome.

I believe the German Wespe was one of the first I built when I was a kit.

The one with the little palm tree and desert base.

Later rereleased by Revell I think.

And I had the first Prehistoric kits from Aurora and Airfix.

This might have been the foundation for my Lost World Project, always loved Dinosaurs and forgotten civilizations etc.

Nowadays those Aurora kits are ridicilously overpriced if one can find one on ebay or such.

I would like to have the sabretooth tiger again for instance, but not at those prices..

So many nice toys in the early days.

Airfix simply didn't make all too detailed miniatures, while Revell in the early days was pretty great. But nowadays they get all their stuff from Airfix and rerelease it under their own brand.

Caesar, Plastic Soldier Company and Pegasus do great 1/72 scale nowadays. Especially for 1/72//20mm scale you can have a look at plasticsoldierreview.com. There you will find all the old miniature kits.

I don't have to think which my first model kit was. I can still remember. It was the Battleship Bismarck from Revell. I still have got the package of it, because I loved the box art. I loved that kit. That brought me into miniature kit assembly and painting, though at that time my father had to assemble it.

@Glitterwolf

You mean this kit, do you?

image.png.33c9b02b4dbad29b5b71de25de2927fa.png

Yeah, I had a few, too. German Jagdpanther and Infantry, Tiger I and Infantry, and all that stuff. British Infantry and Challenger, Fallschirmjäger, Soviet Infantry and so on. A had lots and lots of kits, and somewhen I dove right into Tabletop Wargaming.

@SisterMaryNapalmthat's the one!

Oh I had so many airplanes, tanks and ships in my youth.

When I got older I built a lot of the bigger kits, 1:35 Tamiya, Revell etc.

The thing is, I'm also very interested in history and historical warfare in particular.

I wasn't satisfied with the flaws in the kits and tried to rebuild them and paint them exactly as they should have been.

Using history books and photos from that time.

At a certain point it became more of an obsession to get it right.

Then the first fantasy and scifi minis appeared,

I loved that, and having read Tolkien, Leiber and such in those days, I bought a few.

The freedom to paint the minis as I liked without any rules of which colours they should be was a relief.

Nowadays I almost only paint fantasy, pulp and scifi.

I do have a few historical busts and large scale minis though.

Since most are ancients there is still much freedom.

I do have one Napoleonic bust ( French Imperial Guard) I still want to paint, loved those uniforms.

But I need to get my courage up for that one.
