I've since stopped wondering why people buy what they do before weather catastrophes.  Water makes sense to me.  Milk makes sense to me in limited amounts, especially if you have teenagers who drink it, but six gallons might be overkill (without a generator that can run the fridge).

Bread, milk, and eggs... how long does French toast keep?

I'm not too surprised about the water.  I admit I picked up a pack of water yesterday just in case the city water gets fouled but I don't expect it to be a significant issue.  If I lived on a well, I'd definitely want a lot of drinking water, just in case.

I have family out your way.  One of my relatives was stranded at work for three days due to the flooding after Floyd.

The six gallons of milk was an average, one person bought 12-13, I think in a panic because the store was at low stock levels because milk orders have to be placed four days in advance and four days ago everyone was worried about where Gordon was going. That said the produce manager at this store is a friend of mine since we were 12, and told me that one person bought a cart full to overflowing with need of different cuts.

Thankfully my my family prepared for the possibility of any weather related disaster over the weekend.

We shall see how the rest of the week goes, my team will be in Raleigh tomorrow and much closer to home Wednesday. We will probably be split up Thursday to finish up our monthly cycle of stores.

Yeah, milk and bread are not high on my "disaster prep" purchases. I never got that.... Stuff that lasts a long time on the shelf with minimal to no need for prep? Much better choice. This of course means lots of nuts, preserved meats (jerky) root veggies and fruits that don't need refrigeration... and poptarts of course.

@redambrosia Maybe that's a good question for tomorrow's getting to know you thread?

A loaf or two of commercially baked bread is usually plenty for a week without power and will usually keep that long if you pick it up just before a storm. Peanut butter sandwiches have seen me through plenty of storms in my (nearly) 36 years.

Yeah, peanut butter sandwiches, dry cereal and pizza are generally my go-to purchases if I know I'll only be without power for a couple of days at most...

Edit: In other food news, Jack is cooking...something...with hot dogs, french fries, green peppers and Swiss cheese.

Sounds like quite the interesting burger.

We bought a bunch of boil-in-bag curry pouches, some cans of soup, packaged salmon, and crackers.  We’re hoping to get bread or English muffins on Wednesday, although that might be too late.  (We figure, if we don’t have power, we can still boil things on the grill’s burner attachment.)

That's why I like having a gas stove. No power? No problem! A lighter or a match gets you going.

Lemon Jello, mayonnaise, ham, cheddar cheese, brown mustard.

Forty-eight years, and it is still in my head.... ::o:

The Auld Grump - I think mom used Velveeta in place of the cheddar, at least once.

:zombie:

RE: storm prep---I rarely bother doing anything. The media tends to over-hype it all of proportion. That doesn't mean that I totally ignore it; I'm just a lot more sensible about what and how much I buy.

Hi there, @ub3r_n3rd!! I can see you lurking there.

Tonight has not been my night. PokemonGo required me to sign in. Failed twice. Don’t remember password. No biggie, I’ll remote in to the home desktop. Remote access app decided I’m using the free license for commercial use and will limit me to five minutes.

Fine, I don’t need five minutes. Two tops. It kicks me off within 10 seconds. Well, elf. Message son to go grab my password. Get it from him.

Google now says I’ve tried too many times, and sends me an email alert. Been an hour now, so try again. Still can’t log in. Too many attempts. Maybe I have to review my “suspicious” activity. So click on the email. Wants me to log in.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results, with the exception of electronics. Some times, doing the same thing again is exactly what has to happen!

Except tonight. Security email login says I’ve attempted it too many times! Grr...

I would delete annoying app with extreme prejudice.

That sounds like about the sequence of events which led to me deleting Pokemon Go. After messing around for about two days trying to get in, I decided that if they don't want me to play, I won't play.

That's how we are. And we (used to) go camping all the time, so we've got plenty of odd things to munch on or cook with.

Even made tortillas once.
