Randomness XIV: THE FLOOR IS LAVA!

Recommended Posts

Am I Crock-Potting right? I put in carrots, potatoes, onions, garlic, chicken, quinoa, broth, and a crap ton of curry powder - now I wait a few hours and BOOM food happens? Wish I had some peas for it. Oh well.

Yeah, been busy and not much (or any hobbying) going on lately. Kinda lost my mojo and then couldn't make it to ReaperCon this year, so it's been a little rough. How's everything with you?

Not too bad. Lost my job a while ago, but got another, better, one fairly quickly. That put a dent in my own mojo for a while, but I was able to whip up something for Reapercon, so that's cool. Now, I'm just busting with new ideas i want to try to do for next year.

Sorry to hear that you've been in a slump lately; I hope it passes quickly.

That sounds like about the sequence of events which led to me deleting Pokemon Go. After messing around for about two days trying to get in, I decided that if they don't want me to play, I won't play.

Wouldn't blame you, but I know it isn't the app doing it but Google. I cannot log in to Google through a straight up web browser on a different computer.

And just tried again after 8 hours or so. Still locked and told to try again later. *shrug* Not sure what to do at this point.

Tomorrow will be different. Spaceship is now loaded up in the C-17 and flown out to the proving grounds. So in the morning I will be there early to get back onboard and finish my work.

Wednesday both NASA TV and Facebook should be carrying the drop test live, scheduled to be shoved out the back at 7:30am Pacific time. I don't have the links yet, and will share them if I get them.

Hey as long as it's not school cafeteria green "Jello" with shredded carrots floating in it we are good.........

My mum's family (her parents when they were alive and now her brother) does that with orange jelly for things like family Christmas get-togethers. I never had it at school, so I don't mind it too much.

Very happy to hear that you got a new (and better) job quickly! Can't wait to see more of your inspired things that you put out.

It's alright, I'm used it it now. Trying to get back into it slowly and shake the rust off, started working on some bones hill giants I had on my desk for about a year and paint them at tabletop level. I feel like a newb again though. It's crazy how fast we lose our skills when we don't use them often. I'm also going to paint up a couple more figures for my D&D gaming group as I'm picking up the DM reins again in October.

  Jeebus!

It's a damn good thing I decided to check the ETA for my Swag Bag, because the tracking gnomes told me it was sitting on my front porch... With another box from EvilBay.

In the rain.

Fortunately, it was in a plastic bag, so now I have dry boxes and a wet floor.

RE: storm prep---I rarely bother doing anything. The media tends to over-hype it all of proportion. That doesn't mean that I totally ignore it; I'm just a lot more sensible about what and how much I buy.

Hi there, @ub3r_n3rd!! I can see you lurking there.

In my way of thinking, you have a designated stash of  "emergency supplies" in a cool  dark place all the time.

That way you don't get caught unprepared, even if the local electric utility has one of those malfunctions that can knock out your local section of the grid without warning.

The only thing you should need is a quick check of your inventory [which should already be topped up right after the last need to dig into supplies]  and the addition of any stuff that needs to be "bought fresh" as convenience items to be used up quickly, just before the upcoming storm.

It's not difficult to build up such a stash over time.  You just buy one extra item to go into the stash every time you do your regular shopping and pretty soon you have a "food bank" of necessities that will see you through a few days up to a couple of weeks.  After you have this "savings account" of supplies in place it is merely a matter of keeping items rotated through, the ones being rotated out being used up as regular meals, so that your emergency supplies are always in top condition and freshness.

And don't forget such items as toilet paper and wet wipes.  You can do a good job of keeping clean [which is a great morale boost] with some wet wipes, and they also work to clean your kitchen/tableware after each use, reducing thenlikelihood of food borne illness striking.

The only exra expenses are acquiring vermin proof containers to put all the packaged goods into, such as tupperware style containers with air-tight seals and 5 gallon pails with snap lids for bulkier items or as additional sealing and protection for smaller containers grouped together.

A little common sense and advance planning makes a lot of situations easy to manage that those who haven't planned ahead will be panicking over.

We used to have a big trash can full of canned food and stuff like that in the backyard when I grew up. It was there in case of a disastrous earthquake (SF Bay Area - not unreasonable to worry about). Not sure how often my parents checked it, but it was there. I mostly used it to climb on top of to get into higher branches of the orange tree, then scramble up more.

im in a post  Con slump.  frenzied activity, and then nothing.  It took me about a week to clean up my desk, put away Swag and prioritize next projects.

just started actually applying greenstuff today.  still haven't set up the wet palette yet.

I only have till the end of the week to have WIP pictures for the current exchange.

Ugh.  My 9 year old is acting like a teenager and my teenager is sick and frustrated with her math homework.  None of these problems can really be solved by me.  I think I need to send them all to bed.

Urgh, that makes me feel squiffy on many, many levels ::(:

Fermented fish sauces have been used in many cultures for millennia. This includes ours, btw, since that's exactly what Worcestershire sauce is.

Fermented fish meat would probably not interest me much.
