Knight of the Dinner Table
Those miniature renders (?) look awesome. I see that Ludus Magnus has already done some Kickstarters, so is there any experience how their renders translate to real miniatures? Has at least one of their Kickstarters been delivered (at least for the most part)? I asked the same question in the comment section of the project, but I honestly tend to put more stock in answers on this forum ...
NecroMancer
I didnt back their other but I have been hanging around the comment section of this Kickstarter and this is what people and the creators have said. Nova Aetas is set to finish up delivery in June. Sounded like the creators didnt like something about the final results so they reprinted a bunch of minis. Which I guess is good that they didnt want to deliver a bunch of sub par prints. I think they are going to deliver Wave 2 using planes instead of boats to help speed up the process. Then Sine Tempora is set to deliver in October or November. And the usual creator stuff that they have learned their lessons have grown as a company. The nice thing about Black Rose is that it has been developed and tested for like 3 years so no production time will be dedicated to that. Pretty much everything we will be waiting for is the printing of the game. If you choose the 2 wave shipping the core and Cronos expansion is set to deliver in January with SG to deliver June 2019 (save a couple buck doing it this way). I will probably do the 2 wave because the core is pretty much ready to go so if they delay on the SGs at least I have a portion of the game. From hanging out in the comments the creators have been very active in the comments answering questions and have been open to suggestion. I really appreciate how communicative they have been. They have gained my confidence to back them and I hope you will join us but I understand if youre too skeptical. This is only my 2nd KS besides Bones 4 (I backed 2 through retail so they dont count) so I have yet to be burned and am maybe over trusting. Balgin Stondraeg
I backed Nova Aetas. In fact I couldn't afford to back their initial attempt. I backed the failed reluanch. I then backed the third attempt which funded rather successfully. I have since received my wave 1 box and am now awaiting wave 2. I also have their resin hero figures to compare the plastics too. Overall, as board game playing pieces, they're quite good (which is what they were aiming for). There is some slight loss of detail compared to the renders. Some details look a little shallower to the naked eye before applying paint. So far I've undercoated two but not got 'round to painting them yet. That aside they're very nice figures and I'm glad I have them. I'd definitely like to paint them up some day and see if the perception of depth is a visual illusion or if I'll just have to use paint to trick the eye. There's a few bent spears that I'll try to straighten out with some hot water some day. I attempted to straighten the Squire's sword with a similar treatment with limited success. The plastic has a degree of "resin memory" (meaning it will keep bending back even after you straighten it). I've experienced worse resin memory. It's not that bad. I was much more impressed by the plastics from Darklight: Memento Mori because, while the sculpt & casting quality was about the same, they had significantly less resin memory and the bent spears, when straightened, retained their new shape better. Now the resin Nova Aetas hero figures, on the other hand, are really nice. Virtually no mould lines, pieces fit together quite well, and they look like they'll be an honour to paint. I feel the quality issues with the plastics are more at the manufacturing end than at the design end. If they weren't happy with them then I'm sure they'll improve next time 'round. If, on the other hand, they decided the figures were good enough to use for a board game then that's another story.
Knight of the Dinner Table
Thanks, that helps a lot. So would you say they are about on par with the Zombicide Black Plague miniatures (if you can compare)? If yes, that's good enough for me ... (and my level of painting). You know I've never played any version of Zombicide so I really couldn't say. I'd say they were slightly inferior to the miniatures from Darklight: Memento Mori (not in terms of the quality of the sculpt but simply in terms of mould quality). If you've seen the miniatures from the Dark Souls board game I'd say the quality is similar but with slightly shallower details.
Dan d'Lyon
Sadly, I just dropped my pledge. I finally watched a bit of a playthrough and it seems far too fiddly for my gaming group. So I doubt it would ever see table time. The renders of the minis look fantastic, but I have many thousands of minis and I can't justify getting more in a game I won't play when I can't find time to paint the ones I already have. I really want them, but I'm trying to be a responsible adult. What's happening to me?
Knight of the Dinner Table
You're getting old? ;) On the other hand, isn't it said that the older a man gets, the more of a child he becomes again?

If so you were probably just distracted by Becca Scott I'm trying to talk myself into not being a reasonable adult and just get it. Plus Signum and Limbo when it comes out. Dan d'Lyon
Initially I was watching the Dice Tower one and that got me thinking about it more. Then I certainly did watch Becca Scott. And while she is distracting, it was also that it took 10 minutes to VERY QUICKLY describe how to play the game. With lots of "remember to check this", "don't forget to look here", and "move this along the track" kinds of instructions. Hence my interpretation of fiddly. NecroMancer
Gotcha'! Well you might want to look again if because they just added an Inferno add on based on Dante's Inferno. If you're into the underworld and all things evil this might change your mind.
Dan d'Lyon
Stop that! LOL But now I have to look
NecroMancer
There's going to be a Lucifer mini! I think you get like 18 minis for a $39 add on. Plus it can be played solo.

I love the Ubisoft Heroes of Might and Magic and Far Cry series. But I stopped buying/playing newer versions since the horrible Uplay was mandatory for it. It never worked for me, always crashed and customer support is...well...it would send me to beekeepers if I told you. Such a shame, they ruined it for me, I would have loved to keep following these series, but Ubisoft is a no for me these days.
