I was just saying on the hangouts the other night that I need to do a classical Pingo style mini for fun!  Or paint a mini and treat it like watercolor....

Fear isn't the right word for it, but I am holding off on my extra copies of the Reaper 25th anniversary minis until such time as my blending improves. Same with the witches for my pumpkin army. I'm not as nervous as I used to be about it, having had good results from the "Great Simple Greening" a few months ago. Right now I'm trying to concentrate on clearing the horde of partially started off the table.

Hrrrmn. No. Fear is not the issue.

Intimidation, yes. There is some 'lack of time' in there, and not wanting to start something and then forget what I was doing because I had to take a long break ... but not fear.

 

Goblin challenges are good for the latter. Nothing really helps the first two. ^^;

It's not so much the painting. It's usually the worry of trying to remove tiny parts off a sprue without damage followed by assembly of said tiny parts.

Here's an example of something I received today from the Moonstone kickstarter.

 

 

I've the same sort of worries with my Mcvey Studio minis and a few other manufacturers.

If you had asked this before, I might have said that I was afraid to paint my KDM minis.  The quality is so high and the game so expensive that I definitely wanted to do a good job on them.  But I have actually started painting them now so I'm no longer afraid to paint them right?

 

Well, maybe.

 

I can't deny the fact that I'm painting them at a very slow pace.  In fact, I'm still on the first survivor.  Part of me wonders if that fear of doing a bad job on them is still there but just repressed into my subconscious.

Honestly, limited editions used to frighten me.  But now, not so much.  Frankly, large models (larger than 75mm) are difficult for me to paint, not really out of fear, just difficult.  I'm trying, but they present challenges I've not yet wrapped my mind around.  Outside of that, no real fears.

I drooled during Bones 3 but had no room and no time. I waited patiently, antsy-ly, then obsessively until he went on sale for the general public. I leapt on him when he hit the sale floor and bought my lovely creepy Dagon (and several deep ones to serve him).

 

And I still haven't painted him. My excuse is I have no room and no time (again). I'm practicing my 'giant minis' technique on the Great God [redacted] for my Serpent's Skull Pathfinder game. And we're trying to find a bigger place. Then I'll have no excuse.

... Hmm. That’s not quite true. I’ve gotten very tense on “group paints” because I don’t like the idea of my ... exuberant paint usage messing up someone else’s work.  

 

 

Back when I was taking part in the BoGW, I was with you on a group paint, I thought your work fitted in beautifully. Don't worry

So. I honestly only made this question so I could tell you the amazing one from my husband:

His pirate inn is called the Kraken Barrel.

(Cracker Barrel is a chain restaurant down here)

 

Mine is more serious and lore-based, like most of my names - I stay away from punny/silly since I tend to attach myself to my characters. But I thought this one was at least cool. :o

My dwarven tavern is called the Idle Hammer.

 

We use these places as our guild hubs for adventuring purposes.

Afraid to paint? My Ral Partha AD&D beholders.  Sadly they are both missing an eye or two from moving several times and the uncertain nature of mini storage. I have several larger minis just sitting about waiting to be painted, but I'm not afraid to paint them, I'm just not feeling them and there's no pressing need for them to be painted yet, but my beholders(especially after seeing the one painted up at gencon a couple years ago) I really want to do them up nice, and I'm just not yet up to the task.

 

 

Ahhh! I broke the rule! and I was actively following it. In my defense I had this typed up before Morihalda posted her new question. I was just trying to find a picture of the amazing paint job someone did of one of the old beholders a few years ago ( I know I saw it somewhere online after gencon) ...And I got distracted.

We played a Pathfinder Kingmaker campaign and the kingdom's name was Caffeinia. It was run by Duke Keurig Tassimo, and several cities were coffee puns that I can't recall at this time.

Hubby doesn't like puns the way I do, so he doesn't generally work them into his campaign. I do my best to make up for that by making all the bad puns.  

 

Hubby has a town that has a thriving chocolate industry. The best chocolates in town can be had from Whitman's Steal Your Heart chocolatery. He named it for my favorite boxed chocolates  Additionally, the proprietor is a (purple) goblin disguised as a hobbit and is a member of the thieves guild. Thus the name of the store. 

 

Thats the only one I can think of right now, though Hubby has all sorts of Easter eggs in his world. Because he's a big, silly geek
