I make lots of silly things and easter eggs for my world.

 

The city-state itself is just Paris backwards - Sirap. And the map is.... pretty much Paris. 

 

In discussing what a D&D world needs, I said it needed a brothel. Brother thought I said waffle. So then I thought of waffle-brothel. In the end, the main brothel of the village was decided to be The Sweetest Things, a bakery downstairs and a brothel upstairs - as long as you order the special buns or baguettes. 

 

The mercenary guild armorsmith and weaponsmith are Mr. Wilson and Reynold Pool (Deathstroke and Deadpool). 

 

There is an armorsmith in town that also runs as a rehab center for lost or troubled youth called Armorers Anonymous. The armorer gives the kids room and board and teaches them the craft. 

 

The necrobard PC is Gerald Course, a play off Gerard Way, the lead singer of My Chemical Romance. 

 

And my nonviolent thieves guild is The Scallywags; it just seemed like the right name for it. 

 

Oh yeah, and my Flotusmancer paint job led me to naming her as a villain. So she looked like Flotus, so she needed a "Mel" name. And to torment the player of the necrobard who loves Dr. Who, I made her name into a spoof off River Song. She's Melody Creek.

My Coffee Dwarf/ World of the Unhinged features a bit of this.

I think that majority of my characters had punny names. Heck even my passwords are generally puns.

 

From my name spelled backwards, to "namification" of objects. i.e. Corey Dubois sounds like "Corde de bois" in French, which means cord of wood. I've had Rey Javic named after Reykjavík, Iceland. I've had Ecene Stamoy, which spoken out loud in French-Canadian sounds like "Da coins are mine!" (why yes, he *was* a rogue).

 

Most of my computer game characters are variants of my usual nickname of Cranky Dog: Irate Jackal, Unhappy Puppy, Grouchy Canine.

Ol' Squidface.  It was the name of a ship, named after the dear ol' pirate's mum.

 

I got a glare from the players at the table.  None of them passed the will save versus illusion magic

Dr. Frasier Crane from Cheers. As a barbarian. 

(there was a time the show Cheers seemed to crossover with everything, so this isn't as odd as it first appears)

The reason he'd be a barbarian is the shock of finding himself in a world were magical thinking actually worked would cause him to suffer a meltdown resulting in a complete abandonment of psychology and intellectual pursuits. In one episode Lilith refers to pandering to his ego with the phrase "thank you Conan", so he's obviously familiar with the writings of Howard, so it would make sense that he'd try to base his new persona on what he remembers of them.

As to whether or not he'd be good at it is another question. 

Come to think of it, the whole cast would make an interesting party.....

Surprisingly, I can't find the post I want! And it pops up every few years too!

But I think these two would be a wonderful bard and rogue combo (Miguel and Tulio from the Road to El Dorado).

Everything is perfectly in the movie already....

My love and I have been dying to play them for years, but that would involve first: me becoming witty, and second: my husband not DMing the games.

Princess Cimmorene from the enchanted forest chronicles by Patricia C Wrede. I don't think a specific class fits her, but she'd have a bit of everything, with a strong side of home economics. She dabbled in small magics, whacked a few things with a sword, melted some wizards, but mostly she used creative thinking and diplomacy. She's have a pretty high wisdom (lots of sense), above average intelligence and charisma. And bonuses to making desserts.

Oh absolutely, I love punny names! In our current campaign alone there's the NPC Rock Hardabs, the most manliest fighter you ever did see (just ask him; he wrestled 5 bears at once and won!), the Dewey Cheatum and Howe law firm (though I stole that one from Three Stooges), Louis Torus aka Big Louie the minotaur crime boss, and Obnox the Belligerent (a most ornery goblin, named by MrBoot).

 

Another one is the name I used variations of for my character in every Quest for Glory game growing up. There was Fred B. Nimble the thief, Fred B. Wise the wizard, and Fred B. Strong the fighter. 8-year-old me was pretty proud of that name, lol.

 

In a Paziocon celebrity gaming panel, one of the players had Garamond the Bold, a wizard whose spells were all called by different fonts. The only one I remember is Comic Sans, which was really Hideous Laughter. I've wanted to use this concept at some point, but the opportunity hasn't come up yet.

 

Related is a campaign I was in several years ago that started with just me and one other player, with MrBoot GMing. Both of us kept forgetting all of the place names, so one night we pulled out the map and a sheet of paper and asked him to describe each of the places. We then proceeded to give them all names we could remember, like Narnia, Transylvania, Mordor, Viking Land, Lake Enchilada, etc. This was both surprisingly effective and highly entertaining, and over time began bleeding over into people names too. I recall one session where we were slapping a prisoner around and demanding he tell us what he knew about Sriracha (I don't remember what the original name of the bad guy was).

Sorry, I do that for Call of Cthulhu not D&D.  Right now I am playing Agatha Mallowan but also have Reacher (Lee Child's character) and Charles Sidel from Reich's Bones Books (his picture is Lt Buntz from Hill Street Blues)
