Kuden is a living planet, with a full eco system , the sand worm represents the alpha roaming hunter ... the sand Sifter is the alpha ambush hunter, it finds a game rich area and digs in to thin the herd ...

The build starts simple enough ...SifterBase.thumb.jpg.335a65e5e06e5e78b3f76e6ee84d2e95.jpg

Add a lil cardboard and hot glue ...

SifterStart.thumb.jpg.38a108616edfbcd096596a78c2b31203.jpg

Start the paper towels and water/white glue to build up strength and round out shape ...

It's at this stage I realized I covered all the base ... I want a lil  for a rimmed of terrain so ...

All the wile I'm working up some tentacles in the background. ..SifterStartSoon.thumb.jpg.b9d9f0ed7289d50bd66e42e17ccad920.jpg

I need more tentacles ... lots more ... a few more big ones with more angles and some smaller feeder ones ... this guy is going to be nutzo ...

Not much free time today ... got three more tentacles twisted up last night ... came up with a fun sounding idea for the lurker ... a small base with just a bit of him poking out of the sand to mark his general location (within 12") to go with the full tentical glory model ...

 For size reference ...

Got some tenticals in different sizes ... got some hot glue ... got some time ... getting Loco with it ...

SifterFace.thumb.jpg.0faa21db38d8f01af5546de2d1295357.jpg

One of the things I like about this kind of manufacturing is the organic feel ... you make the base and twist up the tenticals but, putting them together in a nice fit always seems to generate an organic feel that over planed out projects can sometimes miss ... not always , but army level.of crafting leaving a lil misery in the mix seems to help a lot ...

SifterAngle.thumb.jpg.fbee60f6770beb8559817cc3d9899cc7.jpg

Now I have to work out a few last more details ... I'm thinking a few more tentacles on the front side, medium (between the grabbers and the feeders size) or more small (same size as the feeder ones in the mouth) ones ... maybe 4 spaced around the front ...

Then it's on to clipping the larger tenticals and adding the grabber claws ... as the base frame comes together the real work presents itself ...

Your tentacles turn out much better than mine do.

I learned a lot making stalactite scatter pieces and used a lot of hot glue to get the textures right. I will try the spackling filling/coating method next time, should help to save on hot glue when texturing.

The sand worm used a textured rattle can spray for body ... for the Sifter I'll use wet fingers and vinyl spackle for a smooth look...

I had a problem with one of the tentacles being kinda soft and hot glue can only fix so much ... so I drilled a hole and ran some gorilla glue in it and rubbed some on it this morning.. seems stronger now but got me thinking ...

I picked up some 12-3 solid gage wire ... 12-3 is $1.10 a foot vs 12-2 being 1.03 a foot ... the 12 = it's thickness, 10 thicker , 16 thinner , 12 is a good strong but bendable and not to costly a wire ... solid vs braided as I want a stiff wire not a limp one ... 12-3 vs 12-2 ... 12-3 has 3 12 gage coated wired and a ground , for my use its 4 wires, 12-2 has two wires plus a ground wire inside it so only 3 wires, simple math to see that fourth wire is real cheap addition of wire ... so now that cost effective wire 101 is over ...

The next time I make tentacles I'm going to roll a single solid 12 gage wire in the center then shape it wet and let it dry ... it will be way stronger and I'll be able to poke it into something to dry standing ... thus will solve several construction / durability issues with only a minimal bump in production cost.

Got 4 more tentacles to form for the front and then shifting gears from forming to shaping ...

Looks like the "broken toothpick" method for the claws, looking forward to how yours turn out!  :winkthumbs:

Good idea about the wire for support.

With a Kulathi 'volunteer' for scale, the sand worm might be in for a fight ...

Got a second wing of skimmers to get together and a few more conversions to hack up but the Kulathi Horde is starting to take shape ... 3 strike units to the left, 3 fire units to the right, 2 hound assault up front, 2 heavy weapon teams and 3 command elements in center with skimmer fire support wing around back (skimmer assault wing and ace special in the works) ...

Some paint and basing to go ...

Thank you again Bob Ridolfi for the Kulathi and Kevin Williams for the Hounds of Tindalos ... im sooo glad you can sculpt better than I (try to) paint.

With a certain sale going on at a certain large toy store I took a look at what I might stumble across ... and at less than one dollar each ... Skylanders jet stream ...

Yeah it will need a new paint job ... and a flight stand ... but a few attack wings could round out my Kulathi army ...

The alpha, bulls, and one horns are a bit scratched up after a poorly packed 4 state move ... took the opportunity to grind down a few so-so joints for some green stuff practice patching ...

With the arrival of a load of bases my growing Kulathi force have started to take shape and I thought I'd share the frce development ... starting with the command section...

To the right the yet to be painted artillery observer and spotter ... to the left medic and orderly ... center is the force commander and aid ...

Next up inter basic grunts, the Strike teams ... with more waiting fore base coat ...

Then we have the Fire teams, supporting the strike teams advice. ..

Sweeping around the flanks or charging up through cover is the Hound teams ... with specially bread and trained Kulathi to keep up with the hounds greater speed on the battle field ...

A most resent development are Kulathi heavy gunners ... packing heavy fire power for structure breaching or armored vehicle hunting ... a preview below ...

Striking with ruthless determination and single minded ferocity thr Kulathi have quickly established a reputation as deadly and efficient combatants on almost any battlefield.

Had a go at converting a Kulathi to wield a heavier gun ... something to shoot up opposing armor ...

the smaller arms did not turn out well ... I going to try clipping at the elbow for the next one.

Looks food from above, going to have to work n the underside ...
