NecroMancer
So I thought that since this is my first bust that I should do a WIP for it so that I can get your guys' help. This will be a project I jump back and forth to so this will probably be a log WIP with me posting updates every once in a while. Here he is ready to be primed. He is now primed in black but I plan to do a zenithal priming with some red under shading to help shade the green that his skin color will eventually be. I will post again once he is all primed up. He also has a bunch of weapons that I did not get pictures of but will post those in my next updates. Any tips or comments are always appreciated.
Glitterwolf
Awesome bust! If you search Painting a Bust on youtube, you get a lot of vids that might help you. My advice, take your time. Plan the colours and take it easy. Any tattoos paint them on the skin, then glaze over it in several layers of your skin midtone till you're satisfied. That way the tattoos will be faded instead of splashed on the skin. Look for tutorials about the eyes. On a large mini or bust these are focal points.
NecroMancer
Thanks! Any tips for temporarily attaching all of his equipment while I zenithal this guy? I tried some poster tack which did not hold things very well so I am wondering if anyone has any tricks?
lowlylowlycook
That's a nice (nasty) looking orc.

I've noticed some differences between the blue and white poster tack - white working much better - but even the white doesn't hold long for larger or heavier items.

Or at least, no one will look at the bottom? Pin in the bottom, shove into a cork or something like that. I wouldn't poster-tack something that large. Tried with the demoness, and she kept falling. I actually superglued her to a cork until it was time to paint the base. 2

I still may do this but I changed the pill jar that he is on and wrapped some wire around the base and jar and that seems to be holding him pretty well.
Glitterwolf
You did wash him before priming right? Stuff like Resin and Bones really need to be cleaned or the mold release agent will interfere with your paint or even reject it, making painting it a real pain. Lukewarm water with dish detergent, rinse with water. Let dry. Also if sanding cutting to remove flash be careful and wear a mouth guard, resin is pretty bad stuff..
TheMandolin
He's so creepy looking! I'm excited to see where this goes!
NecroMancer
Ok so he is all zenithaled up and ready for paint! In between the grey and white I sprayed an undershade mix of red ink and MSP Dragon Green. This is a little bit of an experiment in painting green skin shaded with red... Guess we'll find out together how it comes out. I'm hoping that the red also brings some life to the green skin. His weaponry The camera washed out some of the shadows.

NecroMancer
This has been sitting on my desk for months now and come to find out it doesn't paint itself. So I figured it was time to get back to painting this guy. I have been nervous to start but I have some busts coming in from KS and I have a couple on my "to paint" shelf so its time to start painting busts. I started out with painting some of his weapons. I dont know if you can see in the picture but I attempted to paint in some texture on the sword sheath. I like how it looks but I think I can take it a bit further with higher highlights. Here is the orc straight out of the airbrush booth. I need a lot more practice with airbrushing. After airbrushing him a bit I took him to the paint desk and tried to add some highlights and more life to the skin. So far I have just focused on his face. I am decently happy with the progress but I plan several more hours on the skin. Sorry for the long post! Any C&C would be greatly appreciated!
