June 18: What are some overlooked professions needed to survive a zombie (or other scary trope thing here) apocalypse?

Everybody wants the big fighter on their team, but who else would you need?

DOG!

Somebody to warn me when he smells/hears the Undead things coming.

Somebody to hunt small game for me.

Doctor, or highly trained nurse. A mechanic, or someone mechanically inclined. Electrician, for wiring up those solar panels.

I'll go simple: a cook.  Yup, the lowly cook.  Why?  A cook (or even a chef) can actually take foraged materials and do something that isn't just edible, but also nutritious AND tastes good!

Gotta eat well and enjoy eating, as it's living, not just surviving.

A vet would be my second one, because someone has to take care of the pets the group will have, as pets are awesome for morale, and other uses that have been mentioned (help with foraging/hunting, guard duty, defense, can pull sleds, etc)

Good one,

Since I'm a hobby cook I'm covered in that department.

As well as several others with my Military and Martial Arts background.

I can treat minor wounds and stuff as well.

Just don't ask me to perform surgery..

For building and fixing stuff: licensed mechanic, carpenter, welder. I want my sanctuary and death machines to be well built, and not just held with duct tape.

Health: doctors and nurses. An everyone will get training in first aid. We'll have very limited access to medication, so anyone with chronic diseases is going to go through a rough time.

Survival: Farmers, foragers, hunters, survivalists. Those who know how to get the most out of natural resources, and know how to make booze.

Fitness: Personal trainers. Good cardio is essential!

Catchall: Grandmothers, 'cause they've seen it all. They'll know how to handle this, like in the good ol' days.

Catchall (plan B): Geeks. 'Cause we've seen it all. We *think* we know how to handle this. We'll be ignored.

Catchall (plan C): Matt Damon (have you seen The Martian, it's awesome!)

Spiritual: Cult leader. Those chronic disease people I just mentioned? They'll be sacrificed so that the evil may pass over us. For the greater good! Might as well throw in a geek or two for good measure, they're really getting on my nerves.

Political: Trump (or Hillary Clinton; Justin Trudeau; Theresa May, etc.) [Insert political joke here] Mostly so we can blame someone.

I wouldn't call it a profession, but I want someone that can sit in silence for long periods of time and still be content.  A thinking person with deep thoughts and still agile of body.

If they were a pharmacist or knew herbal remedies, that would be good.  If they were a chemist and could eventually make gunpowder or convert fertilizer to explosive devices that would be good too.  I'll even take a junkyard owner that likes to macguyver things in his spare time.  Just be quiet, thoughtful and contribute meaningfully to the group.

Starship pilot.  Preferably with their own vehicle.  The best way to survive a zombie apocalypse is to leave it behind.

Oh, and nuke the site from orbit as we leave.  Just to be sure.

But how will zombies that stay at home, relaxed in their air conditioned living rooms watching reruns on cable TV take over the world?

English teachers:ph34r:  ... Yup, you've gotta have English teachers...

But seriously, whichever side wins, they're going to have to learn Shakespeare. And so help me if I catch a zombie NOT using an Oxford Comma...

Chemist, doctor, vet, mechanic, electrician, civil engineer, farmer, woodsman, hunter, brewer, tailor. Ideally you'd want to locate in a colder climate (assuming cold would hinder zombies since they aren't warm-blooded).

The brawlers and shooters are going to be valuable during the initial year, both in defending the settlement as it sets up the initial infrastructure and in protecting the scavenging teams. Raiding should get you through that initial buildup period, water and food from packaged sources, etc.

Then you'll want to have access to a solid spring, set up plumbing and develop a small farm. You'd also ideally locate near an energy source like a natural gas mine, that could be tapped to build a small power grid. Once you have the food, water and power set up, it's mostly about surviving the human raiders.

I play a lot of zombie games. :D

And it's not nice, but your best bet is also raiding preppers to take their caches (they'd be unlikely to share). They load up on food, meds, water and ammo: the essentials of the apocalypse.

Welcome to the last 2019 instalment of Getting to Know You, December 2019 Edition.

The rules as they currently stand ( ...should you chose to accept them... )

      1. Every day, or so (unless I am out or ill or something) I will post a question.
1.5. Should I be unable to post a question for the day a crack team of deputy quisitors, former quisitors, are likely chomping at the bit to step in and post one...
      2. In theory there is a 24 hour span to answer that question before the next question is posted.
2.5. (Rule 2 is the most frequently ignored rule.)
      3. Questions will typically be posted between  06:00 hours and 09:00 hours CET. (Central European Time UYC +1)***
3.5 (...that is 23:00 to 02:00 hours RST Reaper Standard Time UTC -6)***
      4. Everyone is encouraged to suggest future questions to be posted via PM to me or one of the other quisitioners.
(But my PM box is stuffed full gimme 2-3 days to clear it out...)
      5. You do not have to answer every question to play.
      6. If a question is TMI or N/A simply wait for the next question.. ..or post that you decline to respond (clues regarding why can be fun...unless TMI).
      7. Weekend questions will often take the form of two day quests, running Saturday to Sunday.

***CLEARLY I WILL ON OCCASION BEND RULES 3. And 3.5.

It's time again for a year-end roundup of the figures I managed to finish last year. These are the figures I finished during the calendar year of 2018, which was, let me tell you, another ... interesting year.

I was absent from here for much of 2018 (starting mid-August 2017), but that doesn't mean I wasn't painting. I hope to post a bunch of pics over the next week detailing all the minis I painted before August 2018. March featured a ton of stuff for convention GMing and I also painted a bunch for Tomb of Annihilation. And just whatever I felt like.
I'm going through stuff elsewhere to see what's been done and soon I'll be posting the list of minis (and also linking to other show-off threads).
      Tablescapes Terrain WIP
Terraincrate Terrain/dressing WIP 1- Wizard's Study general WIP
Wizkids pre-primed minis and more minis terrain & dressing

      Folklore the Affliction minis
      GW mini WIP

The missing minis are yet to come... I need to find where they were stashed out of the way.
