June 19: What's something you wish existed? Does it already exist in a book/show/game?

Thanks, Glitterwolf!

Most immediately? A cure for aging.

I don't need to live forever, but I'd like to be healthy, and youthful as long as it lasts.

Longer term? Human-usable Faster-Than-Light travel that does not cause time travel headaches or shenanigans.

Both of these most certainly exist in fiction, but neither is presently available in the real world. (The former might come along some day, but probably too late for me.)

In discussion with student workers today, a misheard topic somehow lead us to thinking that Braveheart would make a great Lego game.

Obviously this would never happen, but the room in the castle with all the dinner guests would be... interesting.  We figure the first part of the game would have to be that the girls had to kiss the noble (which would be icky enough for kids and enough of a nod to what happens in the movie).  Oh, and blue paint...

Very true.  I actually looked into Crossbows when Walking Dead came out.  That was a quick "Nope"!  Holy cow there are some expensive options out there.  (Since that time, I've seen some more realistic pricing).  A longbow is good, but you have to be very good at stalking your prey, though you've probably got a better bet of reusing your ammo.  A compound bow improves on this as long as you don't run into problems with the arms, the cable or the string (all difficult to replace in an apocalypse).  A crossbow is flatter trajectory and more powerful.  In fact, my father's great-uncle was a wood carver, but in WWII he actually made crossbows that he and a group of less than ten took deep into the enemy lines and took out snipers and other difficult to reach troops as our troops came in.

Also, I forgot one of my must-carry weapons.  Ice adze!  I'm sure it won't work nearly as well as Lara's, but it is such a cool tool for interesting purposes (and I know, there won't be zip lines everywhere even if I could hang on that long).

I was going to say the ability to cast spells.  But then, that creates additional political, financial and social stress in the world... and ain't nobody got time for that...

And probably anything I could think  of would come from a book.

Hmm... a replicator... yeah... definitely worth having something like that.

Though, if you can do it for food... could it produce minis on demand?!?

It can produce anything..at least my version!

I want readily available and affordable lab grown synthetic meats that actually taste good. Currently, lab grown meats are very costly and they supposedly don't taste that great yet. However, fundamentally, I would love to not have the need to kill stuff to eat it. Maybe it will happen during my lifetime.

As useful as replicators are. I would go with a holodeck. Because we are a hedonistic society, and there wouldn't be a single place that wouldn't want these. And that's how I would add a few zeroes to the end of my bank account.

I want to have a well-paying job traveling around hitting stupid people upside the head with a plank...

Not to damage them,  mind you...

But whenever somebody somewhere in the world did something really stupid, I'd pop out and WHAP!... And they'd do a really entertaining Keystone Cops pratfall. And then, a few minutes later, they'd get up again perfectly unharmed and say, "Gee, I must have done something stupid..."

And on a good day, they might actually figure out what it was.

On a bad day, I'd still have the satisfaction of being able to hit stupid people with a plank.

Utopia.

I'm not even that bothered about which specific utopia as there have been so many in different books/shows/games.  It would just be nice to be able to turn on the news without an underlying feeling of dread.

June 20: Do you say tomato or tomato? Are there any similar pronunciations that completely vex you, like when someone says eligible instead of illegible?

Thanks, Pezler!

No matter how I say it, it will  sound strange to English speakers because of my accent. Considering I still mispronounce certain words, I think I am disqualified for part two of the question.

It's pronounced tomato, if you say it the other way, you're an uneducated heathen.::P:

And yes, there are many such mispronunciations that vex me. The only one that comes to mind right now is: ...axe you a question (ask).

Depends on my mood, but I always say potato.

Pronunciation doesn't vex me very much, but it does drive Hubby up the wall when people say things wrong. As he most frequent conversation partner, and someone who learned most of the words I know from books, I get frequent corrections. I think he is most annoyed by my mispronunciation of Greek words, like "kraken" and "hades". I can never remember the correct way to say them and I always seem to pick the wrong one.

Yes: that is, I pronounce it both ways; potato too...it is part of a song.

Purposely mispronouncing words can be fun. You want to mess with a Malifaux fanatic just call it "Molly Fox". It is always a joy screwing up the head of an intolerant person. There are other words that can be substituted for "person"

Some words that I never heard pronounced when I could hear are difficult to get right now that I can't hear.

It's time again for a year-end roundup of the figures I managed to finish last year. These are the figures I finished during the calendar year of 2018, which was, let me tell you, another ... interesting year.

I was absent from here for much of 2018 (starting mid-August 2017), but that doesn't mean I wasn't painting. I hope to post a bunch of pics over the next week detailing all the minis I painted before August 2018. March featured a ton of stuff for convention GMing and I also painted a bunch for Tomb of Annihilation. And just whatever I felt like.
I'm going through stuff elsewhere to see what's been done and soon I'll be posting the list of minis (and also linking to other show-off threads).
      Tablescapes Terrain WIP
Terraincrate Terrain/dressing WIP 1- Wizard's Study general WIP
Wizkids pre-primed minis and more minis terrain & dressing
      Bad Squiddo Freya's Wrath
      Folklore the Affliction minis
      GW mini WIP
      Reaper Bones minis
      77434 Yeti Chieftain
      77460 Dwarf Butcher
77624 Altar to Dagon 77343 Goroloth 77166 Balto Burrowell 77142 Bones Blacksmith WIP Show-off
The missing minis are yet to come... I need to find where they were stashed out of the way.
      Total count 20 (actually, __)
