June 21: What are some fun desk toys or busy knickknacks?

Thanks, husband....
(He says he expects a list of new shinies by the end of the day.)

Ooh, I'll play on this one!

My desk is crowded... There's all my paint stuff that lives on the desk, includes an Ottlite, wet palette, brush easel and a few other tools (minis and paint, when not in use, live on a shelf under the desk). Near the paint stuff is an electric kettle, cast iron teapot and tea canisters.

There's a Playmobil pirate ship in one corner, with a nearby finger puppet of Shakespeare. Center of the desk, there's a LEGO-framed photo of Nissiana and me at our wedding, flanked by my POP! totems: Raphael (the turtle, not the painter; I don't think Funko has made a Renaissance artists series), Wonder Woman and a xenomorph. Also Arya Stark, though I don't think of her as a totem (just a totally BAMFy character). I still need to find a non-bobble-headed POP Spider-Man.

Then, there's another shelf in the corner, where I have a calendar (my dad takes excellent photos and makes a calendar each year, this year it's from my parents' trip to Ireland) and a pencil cup. The pencil cup is a gargoyle.

I have Funko Pop Bob Ross. His cold soulless stare keeps me on the right path to keep hobbying.

Awesome Wife got me a Bob Ross POP for Fahters Day.  She placed it next to the TV, so I feel his judgmental stare while watchimg TV when I should be painting.  Productivity has increased.

Tom, a toe.

Drives Hubby mad when I say it that way

Well, if I ever had a desk that was mine and couldn't be stolen from, I'd almost certainly have my bobble head ewok pop and my bobble head baby groot pop. Tapping their heads helps me consider things. And their adorable faces calm me down.

June 18: What are some overlooked professions needed to survive a zombie (or other scary trope thing here) apocalypse?

Everybody wants the big fighter on their team, but who else would you need?

Archers, Brawlers, Doctors, Vets, Teachers, Farmers, these are all pretty obvious.

Tailors, Tinkers, Sages, and Faces are a little less so.

Thanks, Glitterwolf!

June 20: Do you say tomato or tomato? Are there any similar pronunciations that completely vex you, like when someone says eligible instead of illegible?

Thanks, Pezler!

I've only ever encountered people pronouncing it "tomato" ironically. Last year, I discovered I'd been pronouncing "agate" wrong my whole life. It must be one of those words I'd read in a book as a child and never heard aloud until I was 37.

My last company paid me to solve Rubik's Cubes, so I had one on my desk for practice/stress relief.

When I had a desk, among the best things I had were magnetic building toys. (Basically a set of rod-shaped magnets coated in colorful plastic, and a bunch of steel ball bearings to sit between them.)

You can spend quite a lot of time playing around with shapes, and sticking them to cubicle walls / whiteboards.

I have, let's just say a lot of, Funko Pops all over my office. On my desk I have Pusheen bluetooth speaker and a phone holder shaped like a pair of hands.

My desk at work is bare, with the exception of a phone, monitor, keyboard and mouse.  My desk at home is completely covered with hobby related projects.

I do enjoy having a stress ball around though.

Oh wow, I have.... Just a few...

- two fidget spinners (one metal with a semi-decent bearing, one plastic)

- a cute dayglow dragon

- various minis and paints

- Cherry MX sampler keyboard (well, it's a tiny thing with several switch types attached to it)

- occasionally, my camera

- rare occasions my film camera

As for other things that would be awesome to have on the desk, I always did want one of those USB controlled missile launchers...

Hubby also has those 5mm magnetic balls, of which I want to get him a bunch more, and some of the sticks and cubes so it's easier to build stuff.

Edit: this is the desk at home, I don't have a desk at work, and what drivers jokingly call their desk (cab of our vehicle) I have an energy drink, which isn't really a fun toy :p

I have none on my desk.

I'd like to, but I doubt it would be appreciated.

Uhh... I have rocks at my desk. Or I did, until two days ago when I brought my rocks home. There are still the professor's rocks there though. And I have tea at my desk.

I definitely need rocks at my work desk though. Sometimes whiskey too. Used to keep a flask in my drawer.... heh.

At work, the staple Jaws of Doom are always to my liking.

1024px-Staple_remover.jpg

If I can have access to the Reaper Boards, I count that as a fun toy.

At home, it varies. I always found Rubik cubes (or the better off-market ones) to be quite engrossing. I have a small collection of 2x2, 3x3, 4x4, 5x5 and other.

And usually, something to pick my teeth or fingernails (most often a pushpin). That may be more of a bad habit than actual playing.

Since I'm moving in the next weeks, it'll be a good time to reassess and refresh my available desk items.

I once received a rock at work that had the words "You Rock" painted on it in colorful bubble letters.

It's time again for a year-end roundup of the figures I managed to finish last year. These are the figures I finished during the calendar year of 2018, which was, let me tell you, another ... interesting year.

I was absent from here for much of 2018 (starting mid-August 2017), but that doesn't mean I wasn't painting. I hope to post a bunch of pics over the next week detailing all the minis I painted before August 2018. March featured a ton of stuff for convention GMing and I also painted a bunch for Tomb of Annihilation. And just whatever I felt like.
I'm going through stuff elsewhere to see what's been done and soon I'll be posting the list of minis (and also linking to other show-off threads).
      Tablescapes Terrain WIP
Terraincrate Terrain/dressing WIP 1- Wizard's Study general WIP
Wizkids pre-primed minis and more minis terrain & dressing
      Bad Squiddo Freya's Wrath
      Folklore the Affliction minis
      GW mini WIP
      Reaper Bones minis
      77434 Yeti Chieftain
      77460 Dwarf Butcher
77624 Altar to Dagon 77343 Goroloth 77166 Balto Burrowell 77142 Bones Blacksmith WIP Show-off
The missing minis are yet to come... I need to find where they were stashed out of the way.
      Total count 20 (actually, __)
