June 21: What are some fun desk toys or busy knickknacks?

Thanks, husband....
(He says he expects a list of new shinies by the end of the day.)

I have a pewter wizard with crystal accents I pulled out of the last box of goodwill that I was signed up for. He keeps me motivated...usually.

I once received a rock at work that had the words "You Rock" painted on it in colorful bubble letters.

But was it a foam rock?

I have one of those. It is delightful. Why? Because I can scare the heck out of my students by throwing it at them, and then they get a good laugh when they find out it is foam.

I'm a little surprised nobody has listed "Green stuff and some sculpting tools".

I have often wondered if that might make a really nice desk toy.

Alternatively, Sclupey, rather than GreenStuff, since it eliminates work time limits.

Yes! I grew up reading and didn't have a lot of people interaction. I didn't think about this until you mentioned it . I remember people laughing at me because I didn't say things right. "Interpret" and "Nazi" were two I distinctly remember getting wrong. For a long time after, I corrected people on ones I learned because I didn't want them to get laughed at either, but I stopped several years ago when my husband told me that people don't really care and were just as likely to get fussy about it either way....

I try to never make fun of someone for not knowing how to pronounce a word, because often it just means they're a reader. And your husband is wise in the ways of people.

I'm too old for the desk toy generation, but I keep two brass Egyptian cat statues on my desk (lacquered black, one on a wooden coffin). I also have a small frame where I rotate in my latest art print.

Unfortunately, it was an actual river stone about the size of my fist.  There have been several times I've wanted to chuck it across the room, but I ultimately decided it wasn't worth it.

Many. I'll put a partial list below, but with the warning that some of them are rude, crude, unprofessional, and frequently offensive. (Others are none of those.) More than that, it's pretty likely that some of the people below would be shocked and dismayed that one of their followers was following others on the list. Look for these at your own risk.

Not really... there's a few YouTube thingys I'm subscribed to, but I don't regularly check them. Mostly I get in a mood and watch all of their content. Then I'll come back to them a while later and watch more.

The ines I look at most frequently are (in no particular order)

Dr Faust's Painting clinic

Overly sarcastic Productions

JLantis Toys

Khan Academy

Matthew Colevile (running the game guy)

The other channels are all music. Enya! FTW!!

First up, a shoutout to our very own @Kuro Cleanbrush for his Youtube channel. You explain things so clearly that you make even  SENMM less terrifying to try out, I always look forward to your next tutorials. ::D:

Also on my Youtube lists:

-Vince Venturella

-miniwargaming (both 40k and painting tips)

-KiriothTV (for all things 40k)

-Ghoolsworld

-Overly Sarcastic Productions (Blame @Pingo!)

-Star Wars Explained

.....and many, many more. I am a man of eclectic tastes, after all.

I follow a handful of painting blogs, I also used to follow a few Youtubers but had to stop (My last computer really struggled with Youtube videos).

Honestly, I find it so easy to lose myself down the rabbit-hole that is the Internet that I try to avoid finding too much to look at.

No.

If I happen to come across something interesting, I'll read it, check out some of the rest of the blog, and then eventually surf away.

Welcome to the last 2019 instalment of Getting to Know You, December 2019 Edition.

The rules as they currently stand ( ...should you chose to accept them... )

      1. Every day, or so (unless I am out or ill or something) I will post a question.
1.5. Should I be unable to post a question for the day a crack team of deputy quisitors, former quisitors, are likely chomping at the bit to step in and post one...
      2. In theory there is a 24 hour span to answer that question before the next question is posted.
2.5. (Rule 2 is the most frequently ignored rule.)
      3. Questions will typically be posted between  06:00 hours and 09:00 hours CET. (Central European Time UYC +1)***
3.5 (...that is 23:00 to 02:00 hours RST Reaper Standard Time UTC -6)***
      4. Everyone is encouraged to suggest future questions to be posted via PM to me or one of the other quisitioners.
(But my PM box is stuffed full gimme 2-3 days to clear it out...)
      5. You do not have to answer every question to play.
      6. If a question is TMI or N/A simply wait for the next question.. ..or post that you decline to respond (clues regarding why can be fun...unless TMI).
      7. Weekend questions will often take the form of two day quests, running Saturday to Sunday.

***CLEARLY I WILL ON OCCASION BEND RULES 3. And 3.5.

It's time again for a year-end roundup of the figures I managed to finish last year. These are the figures I finished during the calendar year of 2018, which was, let me tell you, another ... interesting year.

I was absent from here for much of 2018 (starting mid-August 2017), but that doesn't mean I wasn't painting. I hope to post a bunch of pics over the next week detailing all the minis I painted before August 2018. March featured a ton of stuff for convention GMing and I also painted a bunch for Tomb of Annihilation. And just whatever I felt like.
I'm going through stuff elsewhere to see what's been done and soon I'll be posting the list of minis (and also linking to other show-off threads).
      Tablescapes Terrain WIP
Terraincrate Terrain/dressing WIP 1- Wizard's Study general WIP
Wizkids pre-primed minis and more minis terrain & dressing

The missing minis are yet to come... I need to find where they were stashed out of the way.
